I think that we romanticize old stuff. The new trucks are the most comfortable, efficient, safe, and capable Tacomas ever built. that’s pretty cool, even if I still love my old first gen.

Disagree. You’re literally calling someone stupid and then saying “oh no, you’re not stupid, everyone is!”

You’ve personally been a source of negativity about the 4g for almost two straight years

Fair, nothing beats seeing a well maintained / built anything toyota truck from Tundra to LC to the beloved Marty McFly Sr5. I mean same goes for some of the 4G builds I've seen, @Catfish21 's for one still makes me want to run out and grab one.

Well he did say he was at Barrett Jackson so maybe hopping into a Tacoma from a Hellcat it’s slow?
I thought the 4G was way more impressive than the 3G. But the 3G set the bar pretty low.

Actually it does. With the advent of “smart” TVs, the money is in the backend of the sale. It’s all that personal information they gain from the owner of these info collecting devices. Name, location, viewing habits… we are now the purchaser AND the product, since they sell what they collect about you.

It's the same. But by marketing a phone at $1000, service providers can bundle trap consumers with a free phone but require a multi-year service commitment.

At my work, we sell major brand name power tools and the manufacturer says they sell "proprietary accessories" while the tools often go on deep sales and are "accessory holders."

In 2005 the first year of the 2G, a basic optioned TRDOR DCSB 4X4 ran about $29-30K. The 2024 TRDOR basic option (which is more amenities then the 2G) is about $41-42 with misc current dealer discounts.

Meanwhile, minimum wage was $5.15 in 2005 vs $14.70 today. Go to CA, and fast food min wage is $20. Heck, during COVID, unemployment was nearly $50K/year and companies were furloughing non-critical folk and have them collect unemployment that paid higher than their regular pay.

Then with a 2G, everybody is spending $3-4K quick on new shocks/leaf, rims and tires, trimming body parts to fit 285s, etc.

    Phones, like TVs, are cheaper.

The difference with phones is that everyone wants the latest and greatest each year. The top of the line TVs are exorbitantly expensive too. $8k for an 8k 85” Sony or Samsung.

I mean, you should be who you want to be, and if that includes calling people stupid for buying a truck or being negative about a truck for 2 years, so be it.

but also don’t be surprised if people push back and get tired of it

Personal opinion, the 4G Tacoma TRD Pro should be powered by the engine from the GX550.
