    Morning all:

    Happy anniversary Dale!

Warming up here, 4 deg. right now!

When I use the snowblower my go to jacket is a Carhart hooded parka, I don't think they are available anymore, but that thing is warm.

    I still have my PC1 with 2 5 1/4" Floppies - AND TWO 10-meg hard drives in an "expansion unit"!!! :) Someday I'll start a museum :)
When I was at IBM, 1K was about a thousand dollars (USD), so do the math on 64GB!

Good Morning Tom. When is your knee surgery? Exercising before the surgery sure did help in a faster recovery so you will do great.

    Good Morning Chuck. Stay warm.

Good Morning Carl :hattip:. It's amazing how items, such as your parka are really great but for some reason manufacturers discontinue or use different materials and the new products aren't as good. Stay warm, keep the coal fire burning .

Have a great day folks be safe and be warm:fistbump:

I'm writing this on my 12 year old Dell Latitude E6530; back in 2013 I spent the extra money to buy Intel's (then) fastest Core i7 processor, and since then I've upgraded the memory to the machine's max of 16GB and swapped out the hard drive with a 1TB SSD. Yeah, it ain't even close to being the fastest machine in our house, but it will serve until I buy a new laptop later this year after I can get one with a Thunderbolt 5 port.

My current home office setup (the old Dell is the one on the right):

:pccoffee:  sixtys/wannabes/laptop nerds. I bought a MacBook for my wife 12 years ago, she didn't like adapting to it after her Windoze laptop, so I used it and pretty much converted to IOS full time. I'm on my second one now; the first one still works but it's a bit slow. I keep it in the garage and use it to google how to fix stuff when I'm out there.

Indeed they have. Moore's Law is still the rule, although we are nearing Heisenberg's uncertainty principle...
Minus 3 or so here when I got up, into the positive single digits now. A young man came and serviced our Generac generator today! I was impressed and told him so.

I have half a beef in the freezer, a whole pig and a lamb. I believe in clean good protein and I eat a huge variety of foods. I don't eat meat every day, but rather most days, and 2 days a week on average no/low meat.

What I don't eat is sugar and processed foods and much white flour.

I might do a pork roast Thursday.

At 0530, it was -14. It's currently -2, might go above 0 today (for an hour or so). It is January...

The new 2x32GB memory package showed up today, I installed it and the machine wouldn't boot. :(

Sending it back and ordering a different memory package.

Isn't it interesting that all these technologies that were supposed to uncomplicate our lives, create a paperless society, and provide quality knowledge to everyone... have pretty much done the opposite?

Anyone know anything about repairing electric ovens? My ex-MIL called that her oven quit. I went to see what I could figure out. The temperature probe ohms out good, and the element has continuity, though I didn't feed power directly to it to verify it does heat up. All of the burners on the stove work, as does the broiler. Much of what I've done, including watching a couple of videos, is pointing at the main board, specifically the oven relay, which I noticed didn't click when I turned the oven on.

She obviously doesn't want to shotgun parts at it just to find it costing as much as a new one. The temperature probe can be found as a generic replacement for $16. The element, doesn't appear to be readily available as an aftermarket, Frigidaire's cost is $174. The main board is supposedly available as aftermarket, but none I've found so far has the same plug configuration. Frigidaire's price is $225.

Those ships are beautiful! Thanks for sharing the photos........ On a long ago vacation we happened to find and visit the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath, Maine. At that time they had a shipwright course that would take a couple of years to complete - but having a wife, child and steady job - I had to pass it up. The urge to know more caused me to buy some books on the subject and the joinery required to build them is amazing work. They had a wooden tugboat that day built around 1912 hauled up on blocks to disassemble and restore - fantastic to see the keel and frames exposed. Anyway, my Mrs dragged me away so the shipwright books had to suffice until I got back to my real life.......

The book "How Wooden Ships Are Built" by H.Cole Estep is worth a look - if its still to be found.

One of those bucket list things I'll never get to is building a cedar kayak, canoe, or some kind of small boat. When I was ten I built a small sailboat from a kit.

That means it’s probably Windows 95 or Windows NT? :D
It might be having a tough time interacting with other current offers software/peripheral.
