I actually called the dealer on my way to pickup our lunch. I had to ask if I had gotten the right number. Ole boy didn't even mention the business. Just said "Hello, this is Mark. Can I help you" He asked if it was necessary to trade the bike b/c I'd be a lot better off holding it for 3 months and getting more money. He said it was winter and he couldn't give me as much during this time. He also said "Just ride on up and let's see if this bike is even the one you want". I appreciate that. Weather permitting, I'll ride up Thursday and check it out.

I honestly have no complaints with the Honda. Just kinda wanting something new. I've watched a bunch of vids on the Himalayan and it seems like it ticks a lot of my boxes. These guys helped when I was thinking about buying a Rally, so their thoughts on the 450 carry some good weight.

It is a 1994 heritage softail nostalgia. It’s an 80ci evolution engine. The carb is a S&S super E single carb. Very easy to tune. It has an aftermarket exhaust and an unknown cam. I did buy a cam cover gasket so I can get in there and find out what can it actually has.

My ankle is feeling pretty dang good. I haven't been in the lace-up brace for a week or two. I can stand on my right foot without any pain or feeling wobbly.

Well, I decided to go ahead and order some new tires for the Rally. My front D-Sport is cooked, so replaced that

    dsport.jpg

Then got a set of Waypoints to try

Along with a HD rear tube(have 2 fronts at the house)

I still plan to ride up Thursday and check out that Himalayan. If I can make it work, I'll probably just keep the Rally.

You can always use a "buddy" bike right?

Plus, I ran across this sticker kit and fell back in love with it   :der::der:

    But with gold wheels

After talking to the guy at the shop, he made me realize that if I do want to get rid of it....do it when it gets warmer. I guess we'll see after I go see the Himalayan. Luckily, my bike is really good enough for my uses......so I can just talk shit and dream

Trading in or selling, at least in my area, from mid-October until about mid-March is foolish as that amount of actual riding time is so minimal for most average riders. Buying is great at that time because you can usually get really good deals from dealers needing to move inventory during their slow time or from private sellers needing money going into the holiday season or needing cash for more important things. That's how I got such a killer deal Thanksgiving of 2023 on a second FJR1300. Owner just wanted to free up garage space and didn't want to wait until Spring. I even told him when we first spoke that if he waited until April he likely could have doubled his price.

I didn't expect to get anywhere near what I could from a private sell, it's just easier in my mind. I've actually never traded a vehicle in my life  I could make it work if that Himalayan is the bike I want. At this point, I'm just daydreaming :D I've got new parts coming for the Rally....so that'll keep me occupied for a bit

@gixxerphil did you ever get your Carpuride to work right on the Rally? I'm needing to get some sort of navigation set up on the DR. Can't fit my RAM mount anywhere on the bars, soI'm considering if its worth just going ahead and mounting a GPS rather than investigating in another phone mount system.

I bought mild 50/50s for my dual sport and it sucked off road, gonna go back to my k760s this summer.

I like the look of those tires, looking forward to seeing results.

This was my first attempt with the RAM mount. It’s still in the same place, but changed the head out and mounted the Garmin Zumo XT. Even though the XT is much more pricier, than an old un-used phone. It works much better. No issues with the screen on the phone dimming because of it getting hot in the sun light.

This being said. If you have an old stand alone gps, it very well may fit the phone mount.

    IMG_6327.jpg

This is the base mount I used on the handlebar itself.

Hope something I said helps out.

    I would second this.

I've been talking with dealers about trading in my YZ and possibly R3, most won't even offer book value it seems, and definitely do not care about work done or mods.. which leads me to ask for your guys' input.

I have the YZ listed for $4k (realistically hoping to get about $3k), and the R3 listed for $5k (realistically hoping to get about $4k). Considering its in San Diego with plenty of desert/trail riding and year round riding season respectively, I feel it's fair. YZ has 60 or so hours, with a refreshed top end though a little banged up as to be expected for a dirtbike. R3 as you all know has lots of track parts and goodies though it's a little banged up. Does that seem like ridiculous pricing?

Dealers told me best they could offer as a trade in on the YZ would be around $2.5k, and the R3 doesn't even come close at like $1.5-2k. Both of which seem very low, especially the R3. Maybe I'm just too optimistic, and I definitely realize the R3 will have to go to the right buyer considering the mods/parts on it, but the YZ I feel shouldn't be as rough since it's a well maintained MX race bike, with trade-in book value being around $3.5k, and private party figure being in the mid $4-5k range. idk lemme know your thoughts.

Hope you all had a good weekend. I spent mine doing maintenance on all the bikes and a short ride Sunday to let the R6 stretch it's legs. still waiting to hear back on my restricted license issue so holding off on booking any track days or making any large purchases until then, hoping for a positive answer by tomorrow :/
