No doubt the Ranger Raptor is a bad-ass midsize truck.. but c'mon you're talking $20,000 more than the average/median priced 3rd gen Tacoma.

I'd like your response if OP was asking about the 4th gen Pro vs the Raptor.

There Tacoma's, and they are grocery getters. I'd be willing to be ~95% is EXACTLY what there use for and these Bros w/ bolt on crap on forums. That is why its laughable 4th-genners are calling folks "poors" for not wanting to spend 50k on a grocery getter - There mass produced basic vehicle.

    No, I wouldnt buy MY 3g again. Id get a 6MT :)
in my eyes not many trucks come close to the 3rd gen taco, the only truck id rather have would be a 2017-19 L5P Denali.

In 22 I paid sticker for my Pro. Today I'd pay sticker for a Ranger Raptor over the MSRP 22 Pro.

So yes, I'd happily spend the delta for something I prefer. If my truck got totalled today, tomorrow I'd buy a Ranger Raptor instead of trying to find a lightly used 23 PRO in the high $40k price range.

Ranger Raptors are impressive, especially in terms of tuning ability. Ive seen people hit over 700whp in explorer STs, which has the same motor as the RR. The weak link is the 10r60 but its still a really cool truck.

I bought my 2018 cement trd off road taco brand new and I enjoyed the truck for 60k relatively trouble free miles

my last taco was a 2015 taco double cab trd sport and with no bias I enjoyed and liked the 2nd gen more. The 3rd gen wasn’t a bad truck I just liked the 2nd gen a lot more (the way it drove the looks of it and of course the 1gr) it was a perfect modern truck imo for a midsize light duty truck anyway

Yep I would buy mine again in a heartbeat. 76,000+ trouble free miles in the last 3 years. It’s a fantastic truck.

If it would Only cost me the same $40k to get first gen tacoma rebuilt to almost new (3.4l engine) then no, I'd rebuild the 1st gen. I didn't have time to do that when I got this truck. I like it OK mechanically but all the electronics are way over the top. Half are pointless this far out in the sticks most of the rest are just annoying.

I have a 2023 Sport , used to have a 2012 Sport . I have had zero issues with mine , acceleration could be a little more impressive but I dont plan on any red light challenges any time soon . I would buy mine again.

I would again, but not at these prices unless I had to. Get a tune. Remember that many come here to post about engine issues, but I’d say there are many more positive posts here that out-way those. Also, go to any brand forum and you’ll see the same negative posts. It’s just part of it.

No. Had a 2018 trd 4x4 OR. Nice truck inside and out. I hated the engine/trans combo. The engine belongs in a car, and the trans belongs in the scrap bin.

I'd get a 2nd gen or take a chance on the 4th gen. 4th gen power increase is appealing.

I would buy my 2021 Sport again...but I would negotiate options I added after the fact.

It's been a reliable truck for my needs since May 14, 2021.

    Current miles: 32K+

I have a 2016 3rd gen I bought on black friday in 2015. I'm also a 1st gen owner. At the time it was really one of a few choices, a frontier, the GM twins, Ridgeline and a 2nd gen Taco. I soft-road and tow about 3k pounds.

I had considered waiting for a Colorado/Canyon with the 2.8L diesel but was concerned about reliability. Should have test driven a Ridgeline, but though I'd be towing more "soon" so didn't. I had a Frontier for a couple weeks and the power was great, but turning radius was crazy for a small truck.

If I could go back in time I'd cross shop a Tundra and a Titan - the 1st gen Titan is a small fullsize and may have worked out great for me although the meh quality. The 2016 had what I'd consider significant drivability issues and if OV Tune didn't come around I would have traded for something else. I was an early adopter of OV tune, I run my own custom tune and the throttle response/transmission shift precisely the way I want them to.

In 2025, the choices are much greater and think I wouldn't be a repeat Taco buyer.
