Yeah . When I see this message I don't drive it.. Ive seen it a few times and I don't drive it... Just let it warm up. It goes away quickly. Less than 5 seconds. I generally turn it off then start it back up without issue.

 

I swapped in some older, less shiny taillights. The only silver or chrome left is on the stock TRD OR wheels...

I feel that in my soul...walked out and hit the key this morning and got the absolute weirdest POS 4 banger cold start noise ever.

 

I gave mine a salt bath today.

Or maybe I just drove it. Or both at once. Okay, we have ice. It happens a lot but do we really need this much salt?!?

 

Threw a CEL for P0012 and P0022, messed up camshaft position and other VVT issues. Gonna try and do some easy fixes tomorrow, hoping it isn't something serious. The truck only has 124,000 miles on it.

 

Make sure your oil level is full, clean and the correct oil is being used...

It would be odd that both variable timing solenoids failed, or both the VVT actuators failed at the same time on different banks..

Low oil, dirty oil, or oil that does not meet the manufacturer's requirements are all causes for this, and would affect both sides, as well as a worn out timing chain...

When I lived in the mountains, at 11.300ft. my Taco saw -35 to -40*F quite a few times, with no start up issues.
I did not have a block heater, but I made sure to run the 0 - 20 oil, and ran my anti-freeze at a 2 to 1 ratio for the best cold weather protection (something like -55*, if memory serves)

Sorry to burst your bubble but where I live in the SE US no one calls the cold and snow we’re getting a ‘major disaster’. It’s more like ‘stay off the roads for a couple days’ because local governments have no use for serious snow removal equipment. To be honest, with as many RY’s here, snow events are mostly celebrated as a reason to get out and enjoy the weather.

Yupers, some of us lifelong residents to the south are upset that the storm went below us, Now this single digit temp crap can stay up north, snow stickes just as good down here at 30F...

 

But do u have coats? Lol... my cousin in FL always complains about the cold when he comes back to the midwest. He always has to go buy warmer clothes. He seems to always forget.
