Awaiting delivery of my new-to-me 2022 SR5 crew cab and would like to know my options for a remote start if you would be so kind. Please provide as much pro/con as you can.

Pre-heat and pre-cooling is primary reason
If keyless operation is possible I would like to know more.

I am reasonably handy but getting a little old to work under a dash so plug n play would be worth some additional cost.

Side question- will this mod affect the remaining warranty?

Forgot to add my key has the "H" stamped on it which I think means a chip key. They let me take possession of the spare key

I never added remote start but I did add a plug an play gate lock tied to the doors. I have a cover so it really leaves a nice secure easily locked place. (Golf club hide a way). Sorry I digress.. it was easy to install, I had a neighbor run the wiring and additional power to the side access where I ran it to the kick panel. No cutting just truly plug and play…. Answer I’d just do it.

I should have followed up. I ordered the appropriate N2 from TacomaBeast but still waiting waiting waiting for shipping. Ordered Jan 11 and today is the 22'nd so beginning to question my choice to buy from, may be a good reason but no word from them at all.

Better reach out. Have you checked your order status? A lot of places will "sell" an item even if they don't have it and have no idea when it's coming in. Could be on perpetual back order

I don’t personally have their remote start but everyone I’ve talked too that does have it, loves it.

I was on N2’s website yesterday actually and a pop-up appeared saying that their shipping times have been impacted by the LA fires. I think they are probably based in CA and the delays are most likely not their fault.

Edit: it could just be TacomaBeast being themselves. I forgot you said your placed your order through them. Not sure if you’re new to Tacomas all together, but I’d stay away from TacomaBeast in the future. They are a very disliked company among the Tacoma & offroad communities.

I'm in the same boat as you with auto start. Mine ran out and it pisses me off so much I'll just pay for a third party one out of spite before I renew the one on my truck, even if it's free for a year.

I didn't that about them. Some forums are sensitive about talking about vendors so I learned not to ask. I am new to Toyota aside from my son having one for a long time now and still going strong with a lot of miles. Most of the vehicles in my driveway are Hondas but not a fan of their truck.

Makes sense! Yeah TacomaBeast is like a four letter word because they defaced a national park and then posted about it on social media. Here’s some reading for you:

There are more threads on the topic that you can read but I didn’t feel like pasting more than 3 lol

So I am convinced I should buy from them again.

    1. Whom should I buy from the type of items they sell?
    2. Should I let this order ride and wait since it's too cold here for me to install anyway or try to cancel? In your opinion of course

If I were you, I'd cancel the order on TACOMABEAST IF they have NOT shipped the product and then order kit on N2 website... which would be faster than TACOMABEAST shipping. I got N2 kit from N2 website.

Edit: I didn't realize, that they (N2) are located in CA.. You might be able to find the kit somewhere else or wait a few months before you can order kit on N2 once they are back up and running.

Hotshot offroad is always who I recommend because Colton (@memario1214 ) is very active on here, has absolutely fantastic customer service, and will answer any questions you have about stuff before purchasing. He’s helped me out with a ton of parts and orders.

You could certainly try to cancel your Tacomabeast order but I feel like the N2 stuff might be delayed from any vendor at the moment unless they already have it in stock.

I installed a Start X this fall. You use your factory key fob, easy to install, and works great. Amazon, $199 and I’ve been hopping in a warm truck all winter.

I bought the N2D option straight from their site for my 2017 SR5 for a couple of reasons.

Firstly was their customer service. They are very helpful/responsive per reviews, but install was so easy I never needed them.

Second reason was the fact that it’s easy and DIY friendly. I’ve had it a few years now and zero issues. It does take a little getting used to making it work, meaning you can’t just rapid fire hit the lock button three times and expect it to work. You’ll lean the required cadence quickly.

Side note: one of the best benefits of the H key is that your truck will not turn off when you open the door. Just insert the key, turn it forward and you’re good to go. Highly recommend.

When I looked at the N2 site I was overwhelmed with options I wasn't sure what I needed or wanted like alarms etc. Did you need to program yours, get what you needed? I have the H key and all I want is remote start. I just got word my order was cancelled per my request.

Here is the link to what I bought and is what you’ll want if you don’t want any of the add ons. I also just wanted a remote start via my key. It would be worth just messaging them to make sure it’s exactly what you want.

N2 provides remote starting.. no alarms.. If you want alarms, look elsewhere such as Viper, or whatever..

They have plug n play, no programming.. Mine required programming back in 2019.. If you got kit with 'takeover' then that means once you remote starting your truck, you are able to open the door without shutting the engine down. Without takeover, the engine will be shut down once the door opens.

Thanks, when I go the site I get a big banner saying they impacted by wildfires so perhaps that's also the delays tacomabeast is having. Trying to be generous. They did cancel my order quickly.
