I have a 2009 2nd Gen that i am struggling to calculate a sale value. It has 160k miles is in good condition. No rust and has about 5K worth of mods I've done to it. How much of the mod prices should I add onto the the kbb average price? This is tough because I feel the truck has significant value beyond the stock price that most people expect to pay?

    Thanks for the feedback.

Not too many people will pay extra for your mods. Take them off and sell them separately.

Thanks for the response. It will be a bit of a challenge when it is a lift, cat back exhaust, headlights, and rock sliders and other things that aren't easily removed.

was going to say similar! been thinking about selling my truck and know its likely worth more stripped back to mostly stock. when I purchased my truck I negotiated it like extras items weren't of value to me. and my truck had the ARB bumper, wheels and Canopy on it.

Guess I just need to find someone that wants the same things that are currently on my truck and convince them to pay for them...easier said than done.

if you find the right buyer those things are of value. find the value of similarly put together trucks in your area. and then add a bit more. because someone on the street is going to tell you less anyway

though your truck looks pretty close to stock, so might have a better chance finding a buyer that might like the truck and not notice the mods right away

Take what mods you can off and sell individually. Otherwise you will get nothing if not lose value on your truck.

Depends..where do you live? That truck value might change in your favour if a cold weather state.

Re mods..what they mentioned is correct. That said if you feel you would want to take off those items, you could do a local sale here and do maybe swap your lift for the stock stuff and cash? Seen it done before.

    What are the headlights?

What all are we talking here?

3rd gen oem rims and tires. Could sell for 400ish bucks… Can you get replacements for that?

    Amazon/ebay bedside decals. No value.
    Amazon/eBay headlights. No value.
Amazon/eBay grill and valance. No value.

TRD exhaust. Can get some money out of it. Is it worth the time or cost of replacing?
    No value.

    What kind of lift?
Are we talking Full fox, icon, king, ads setup?
Or are we talking spacers or 5100’s because that’s not going to add any value.

Sliders are worth something if you remove them and sell them.

Unless you have some razu suspension going on or a huge list of mods I seriously hope you didn’t spend 5k on those things.

You know what I noticed first?
    The damaged rocker panel.
    Second? Your flaking paint.
    How’s the rust?
How’s the rest of the paint?
    Overall mechanical condition?

These are things most people are going to care about. Not the mods.

    Oh… welcome to TW.

What are you planning on buying?

Other than the headlights and grill, the general public would consider that a stock truck.

Us, we know it’s not stock, sliders…they would think it’s just generic steps. The wheels “they would think they’re OEM”. The lift you can tell but not enough to steer away a potential buyer.

Me personally, think it’s a clean “stockish” truck.

If I were to sell it, get rid of those headlights for an OEM pair or BHLM. Trade the grill for an OEM white surround grill.

    Sliders welded on?

    IMHO

2009 truck is worth KBB at best. It’s a 16 year old truck even with an average annual mileage of 10,000 miles your mods are preferential to you and maybe the buyer for style but add no value, it’s more of maintenance and personal preference.

I personally would not look twice at an ad for a 2009 truck with 160,000 miles for anything over $10,000 regardless of any other factors. It’s still an aging machine.

The rocker panels are a result of my wheelchair when I transfer into the truck. Years of transfers in and out of the truck have dented them. I've definitely noticed them I cant find a way to repair them easily.
The paint chipping by the window is new, from the past year or two of being outside. I need to touch them up. There isn't much rust. I've kept it inside for 12 of its 16 years.

If it didn’t have the damaged rocker or chipping paint and is in good condition with service record 12k plus minus. In its current condition I’d say 10k. If the modes are more than 3yrs old they have zero value imo.

its white, they all start peeling at the windows, under the hood on the inside of the fenders, and on the hood near the nose, and the personal favorite spot those bed corners that are protected by the bumper corners. and sometimes on the roof!

just be mindful the feedback you get here on tacomaworld is from the enthusiast community which tends to be far more critical than the general public you will be selling to

generally speaking you might get about 1/3rd the value of the mods IF they are done with good name brands, tasteful, and you're willing to wait for the right buyer. There are limits to that of course.

ps. dont underestimate the value of a good detail. Spending a day on the weekend to DIY detail your rig helps it picture better, look better in person, and sell quicker to the general public.

and with anything you sell, you're not so much selling the product as you are selling the person who is buying it. Same is true if youre on the buying side. You have to be willing to walk from a deal to get a good deal

I’d pull the sliders if they’re bolt on and wheels and tires if you have the original ones sitting around.
Everything else will probably more of a hassle than it’s worth to take off
I’d only take off suspension if it was some expensive king/fox/ADS stuff
