Like I said: the burners and broiler work, so yes, there is power...except when I unplugged to remove/reinstall covers. I hate getting zapped by 240v more than I hate getting tagged by 115v.

    Lol!

The worst shock I've gotten was 120V. 277 is just more spicy. It really comes down to where you're grounded, and where you get tagged. 120 from left hand to right hand was pretty bad.

Edit: I did get a pretty nasty one from a fluorescent ballast once. Almost knocked me off my ladder, and burned my thumb. I ended up half falling/half running backwards down the ladder, and wound up sitting on the floor. Must have been before October of 2016, because I remember going outside for a cigarette as soon as I regained my composure.

Still have a picture of the burn. Nothing crazy, but it definitely hurt!

    IMG_20150410_112941350_HDR.jpg

Yeah, you have to be doing some pretty stupid shit to get 208, 240 (unless we're talking grounded B phase), or 480.

    Is it clean?
oil or other residue will make it read incorrectly.

Some years (like this one) my furnace stops heating and all I do is clean the thermal probe with a light sandpaper.

That seems to be the way with a lot of things nowadays. Engineered obsolescence, or whatever you want to call it. If they made them last forever then people would only have to buy it once. Kind of like cars.

We replaced our washer about 17 years ago. The dryer at the time was 10 years old. The plan is that when one dies we will replace both. That should be good for our remaining time living here. It's just the 2 of us.
Stove is 15 yrs. Refrigerator and microwave are 1yr. Dishwasher is about 5yrs.

    This is true.

Our Samsung washer shit the bed last year after about 8 years. Found a bunch of forums saying the drum base that takes all the force of spinning is made of some crappy zinc alloy and just disintegrates. Ours was just the motherboard going bad.

Would have cost about the same as a used old-school washer so we went that route. This one even washes quicker.

Our dryer is still old-school and I've only had to replace the belt on it once.

Currently dealing with dishwasher (9 years?) and coffee maker (12 years?) issues over here. I hate dicking around with appliances. Fortunately my bud Nick's dad is a recently retired appliance repair guy and and smarter than the internet. Told him the dishwasher issue and an error code and he immediately had suggestions of things to check. Can't get to it tonight, but will very soon.

I was able to fix the coffee machine issue twice now, but if it keeps coming back I'm just getting a new one. My coworkers don't want to be around me in the morning when I've just been dealing with an ornery appliance and also don't have my coffee.

Sorry @OldSchlPunk we be cooking with gas over here. Come to think of it, I'm not sure I've ever owned or lived in a place with an electric oven/range/stove whatever they identify as.

The refrigerator and stove at my brothers house is 53 years old and still going strong. Straight up 70's Kenmore in avocado green that my parents bought shortly before I was born.

I think most appliances from the '60s and 70s just got replaced because they were ugly. For the most part, they're probably still running, wherever they are. :D
