My poor 2020 SR SX got nailed by a drunk driver while parked in front of my house. Those who have been rear ended... What are your thoughts here? I'm fearing that its totaled...

The impact clipped the back left corner of the truck, hitting the back left tire dead on. The front right tire/wheel hit a big landscaping rock. Axle is very far off axis and the leaf springs are both bent/ broken. The back left quarter panel is buckled, and the bed was pushed forward far enough to dent the cab. I can't tell for sure, but it looks like the bed is no longer aligned with the cab. The whole truck got launched about 20 feet forward from the impact.

What does TW think? Am I hosed?

    Ugh, that sucks!
Your insurance adjuster makes the decision and will let you know. The biggest factor: the value vs the costs of repair. The amount of miles is the biggest factor on value. It looks like the frame didn't buckle in the rear, as the car went under it,,, but the spring/axle shift still has me wondering if there is frame damage elsewhere.

From what I see, the frame is fine. The rear hitch ( bumper ) is mounted by screws/bolts on the actual frame. That's a whole piece they can replace. They replaced mine, the bumper might be damaged but it does not directly transfer impact to frame, since its screwed on.

Here was mine, I was standing on red light when minivan rear ended me around 30MPH or so downhill he was going. The cost was roughly 6k. Make sure to check your tailgate, in my case it was misaligned and they had to replace left rear bed fender too.

Funny enough mine is SX too but SR5, and they couldn't get the SX sticker, the badging they did.

Drunk driving should be a capital offense.

@Beak, my 2022 TRD Sport got hit while parked last spring by a neighbor who was just learning to drive and lost control of her car while backing out of a space behind my truck. The damage was well north of $8,000 and doesn't look anywhere near as severe as yours. Sorry to say, my gut tells me they're going to total your Tacoma. :(

What most shops will do is piece by piece report things to repair but to a point that it’s not totaled. If the shop knows how the insurance works, that’s how they go about it.

Until the adjuster from the insurance company shows up and declares it totaled.

If it is totaled, could always buy it back if there’s no major frame issues and slap a flatbed on it. I’m sorry you’re going through this it’s never fun dealing with others poor choices.

Bed side, bumper, leaf pack, tire, dent repair on the cab, probably the leaf shackle hanger... probably not totaled.

Do you advocate lethal injection or hanging? Toyota makes mobile execution vans for the Chinese market. Note the 3rd gen 4Runner front grille and headlights:

Still waiting to hear from the insurance estimator, but the shop tallied up about 10k worth of repairs without including any frame work, which they determined to be bent diagonally.

Sounds like they're waiting to hear from Toyota if they can replace some portion of the frame, but the shop sounded doubtful of that.

SO MUCH THIS, awful being inconvenienced by others and there's no real compensation for that.

Plus side is OP wasn't in the truck..yikes.

For sure! I was hit by a tire from the opposite direction of interstate 5 years ago in my dodge ram. The guy forgot to tighten any lug nuts in his trailer when he changed a flat. Ended up being about $16k in damages paid by his insurance company and about $10k in diminished value of my truck. After that I hope any accident totals my vehicle and I get bought out. It’s never the same and you end up losing in the end no matter what, in my opinion it’s better to just move on to a new vehicle.
