Popping sound when turning

When i first bought my truck it would always make a popping sound when i turned right. I assumed that it was just a quirk of the truck and learned to ignore it. After i had it for about a month, it started leaking oil so i took it to the dealership since it was still under warranty. They said it was leaking oil because someone had not put the oil filter on correctly. After that the popping stopped. I do not know if that is what made it stopped, but it did. However, about a week ago it started popping again. At first it was only when i turned right, now it is when i turn left too, and when i make tight turns it kind of creaks. I have a spacer lift on the front that the truck came with when i bought it, it is still under warranty, but does anyone know what it could be? Thanks alot

 

ball joints? You never want to crank the steering wheel all the way. If you hear the power steering pump bog down, your turning the wheel too far.

 

Could be the cv axle

 

I read "it is still under warranty" That means, drop it off and the stealership. I had a popping sound time to time, oh nvm... I have a SA Anyway. Stealership.

 

pickuptruckguy im not turning it super hard and i dont feel it bogging down it will pop when the wheel is about halfway turned. And arent cv axles only for 4X4s?

 

yes, is it popping while moving or popping while turning the wheel?

 

oh, gotcha, I misread. I agree w STT, take it back to the dealership. It's obviously not the oil filter

 

yea i didnt think it was the oil filter it was just weird that that seemed to get rid of the noise before

 

the popping sound randomly stopped for a couple of weeks, but now it is back again and is much worse, it has also started to creak intermittently during low speed turns. I want to take it to toyota since i have a warranty, but i doubt that they will honor it

 

Maybe they put it on a rack to check it out and it extended your suspension, temporarily changing an angle and relieving the issue for a bit. Once everything settled back in and you turned hard again, the issue may have come back.

I have a similar issue that only happens when I back up and turn the wheel hard to the right. If I come to a hard stop after backing out of a parking space with the wheel fully turned, I get a little "pop" sound but I've had everything checked and it all looks good by 2 different shops and another personal expert.

 

yea but this is starting to get worse, at first i didnt notice it over the radio, now i can always hear the pop, and i wouldnt bother me that much if i knew what it was. I just dont want it to be something serious that i dont know about, i was thinking it might have something to do with the extra weight of my elite bumper or the spacer that came with it when i bought it. But i feel like they would try and say the spacer caused it and wouldnt honor the warranty

 

I have a pop as well and can feel it in my floor board. Someone mentioned that it could be sway bar bushings. I havent checked them yet, but next time it goes up on a rack, I'm checking them.

 

oh ill have to check that out, alot of people just remove the sway bar right, if i were to remove it completely and the bushings were the problem would it stop it?

 

Yes because they wouldnt be there anymore but i dotn think that the bushings are the problem it sounds more like some kind of joint to me. How is your alignment?

 

should be fine on the alignment, no shaking at any speeds and i havent had the truck that long either and it showed all of that type of maintenance had been done on the carfax. i was thinking it was a joint, and the creaking was something with the suspension

I forgot about the creeking, but that sounds about like something with the suspension.

I was going to say if the alignment was a little off maybe it was a tie-rod or something of that nature, maybe check the balljoints but idk why they would "pop" when turning that would be more fo a hitting a bump situation

 

I have my sway bar removed and it still occasionally makes that pop when I back out and turn the wheel hard right. It's a very light pop almost like a tire is catching on an edge of plastic, but I've trimmed and nothing should be catching.

 

My 4-runner made the same poping noises.....After replacing the steering rack ,and upper and lower ball joints it ended up being the sway bar bushings........

 

ok im glad to know this isnt really uncommon. Seabass, it is just like that, it sounds like im driving over a coke bottle, the creaking doesnt bother me as much cause i was pretty sure that it was the suspension, and im sure that the springs are getting worn out, since they are ten years old, i know that taking the swaybar off effects handling, but how bad is it, and what is the removal process?
