* Brightest LED Reverse Light Bulb *

Got them the other day.

They are going back.

WAY WAY to much scatter, and less bright compared to my standard NON HIR 35w gy6 bulbs. Going to order HIR 35w gy6 bulbs and be good with bulbs in the reverse light housing. If i want more light some fog light/spot led pods with a closer to 4500k rating is what is going to happen.

EDIT - needless to say for less than HALF the price of these shitty LED bulbs, you can go to bulbs america, get the GY6 HIR 35W osrams and have WAY WAY better light output.

 

I’d like something this bright but I don’t like how the connection for the bulb is no longer sealed. With any moisture at all that connection will corrode in no time! I left the right low beam connector dangling when I did my HID install since the relay harness only needed the input from the left headlight and it corroded pretty bad in just a few short months.

 

I guess that depends on how you define "sealed." The OEM bulbs slip into a slot between contacts. They are certainly not "sealed" as I define it. A little dielectric grease will add something of an environmental seal no matter what bulbs you run.

As for your unused headlight connector corroding, I have the Ultimate Headlight Upgrade in my truck with the HD harness. This means I too have an unused female socket under my hood. But I filled the connector with dielectric grease, then double zip tied it in a small plastic bag with the bag opening facing downward. It's been 3 years now and everything is still clean and not corroded. You might want to try that.

 

It is sealed if you use a bulb that goes in the normal bulb holder. The o-ring seals it from the environment and the bulb socket is then in the housing, completely sealed.

The GY6.35 Osram HIR bulb is awesome! I had the worry like you do with the setup shown above. I only ran it for about a week so I didn't run into any issues. But I was concerned, especially in the winter when things like to shrink. I know the material used is less likely to shrink....but in Iowa we frequently see temps 10F and less, often times -10F before windchill.

 

Ah, I see now! Yea, that kind of bulb scares the crap out of me on multiple fronts. The GY6.35's fit right in the OEM (weather proof) location. Glad you like them!

 

Actually the factory bulb is absolutely sealed inside the tail light lol. The bulb socket uses a rubber o-ring gasket in between the socket and the tail light. I circled it in red. When you twist the socket in place it puts tension on that o-ring sealing the connection. This goofy bulb takes that connector and leaves it out in the elements right behind a rear tire where it’s going to get sprayed with water everytime you drive through some. Dielectric grease is not a stand alone water proofing solution, it’s just for added security of an already “weatherproof” connector or to prevent corrosion to bare contacts. With a connection this open and exposed it will just wash out and the connection will corrode. You could try putting electric tape around the whole socket but that just seems pretty ghetto. If you want to use these bulbs, the only weatherproof solution will be to cut off the OEM socket then hardwire it directly to the socket wiring and use marine heat shrink tubing on the soldered wires.

I fixed my corroded connector with some special spray to remove the corrosion, some diamond tip connector cleaning tweezers, and then I took an H11 extension harness, added a little dielectric grease, plugged in the extension and zip tied the excess. Worked great.

no complaints
brighter, cheap, simple/easy to install, no issues so far

topper clear back combined with 10% cab tint means it's still hard to see directly behind turned back or using rearview
but visible on the sides via sideview mirrors

may need to put DiodeDynamics backup lights, either in the bumper corners, or closer to the center

curious to know what other good lights are like front turn signal, front running light
Not sure if VELED and DiodeDynamics are the same
they seem expensive, especially with the flasher module
Just don't want my stock ones halogen heat to burn the reflector on these recently-new DEPO housings (LED may be less heat if not using a resistor)

 

just a thought, I've heard they now have photo grey, or transitional tint for our windows. Dark in daylight then clears at night. Haven't tried it yet but hate the tint at night, even with brighter lights...Seems like a good idea.

Any new tech (transitional tint) always cost more. I doubt most tint shops carry it. Unless they want to order it

I bet they make money by ordering cheaper in bulk. So they probably won’t on a niche thing that isn’t widespread until people catch on

The osram are better? I was just installing them tonight and broke one. Was going to buy these instead, because I'm irritated. I have one osram in and a blown fuse on the other side.

Yeah I have had GY6 bulbs in my truck for a long time, and moved to the HIR osrams and keep the original GY6's as backup. The HIR's are great.

i personally would not want reverse lights to be 2900k like those osrams.

 

Got the osrams installed. Nice and bright, but not obnoxious. Really happy with them.
