Just saw this article this morning from Jim Thorpe PA

    https://nbcphiladelphia.app.link/s4lHvSGVpQb

I read earlier in the week about a man being attacked by a black bear and thought something isn't right. Why isn't he hibernating.

    Be safe out there folks:fistbump:

I think the hibernation thing is a bit overstated, at least around here.

This was at my place on Dec.26 and it was 18 deg. They come out whenever they feel like it. :notsure:

He came up near the house couple weeks ago and destroyed the bird feeders.
Found one of the suet feeders in the woods 200 yards away.

Since I moved here last Spring, I have had 6-7 different bears here, all males without tags and a couple in the 500# range.

    Morning all:

I just glanced at the earlier article about the bear attack and somehow missed that it was in Jim Thorpe which is only a few miles North of me, wondered the same, why wasn't it hibernating, now we know the possible reason why it wasn't.
My thinking would be that there is/was another rabid critter around that passed it on to the bear, possibly at a feeder.

If there's plenty of available food, I think they will pop in and out of hibernation, not so much when food is scarce.

I keep my head on a swivel when working on the property as they show up at anytime...and close.
Strapping on the 1911 while out working on the property is now normal.
This guy came out of nowhere last Summer. Just finished cutting back there.
Just got the bear proof garbage can a week earlier. Seems to have worked.

Yeah, a screwdriver wouldn't be a good idea. Try a hair dryer.

, I think my resident pond bear has a non-mutual agreement with me, if you let me use your pond, I won't bother your garbage can.
Strange that it hits my neighbor's garbage can quite a bit, but doesn't bother mine which is just across the street, either it doesn't like the scent of the Fabuloso scented garbage bags I use, or the smell of the urine-soaked kitty litter and kitty poop that I also put in the garbage.

Thanks for asking! The new job is going well. Putting in some major hours, but a good team and they like to $ell.

I’m glad you’re enjoying the island life! Majorly envious!

My neighbor across the road from our place up in north Florida said no snow, but freezing rain. Overall about 10 inches of rain over a few days. We just got here a couple hours ago. Supposed to be in upper 20s in the morning. Brr.

    Good Morning :hattip:

Surgery went well yesterday , the procedure was was almost 4 hours long . I'm now at home . My surgeon is very pleased about the surgery as they were able to blast and remove the large stones which were blocking the kidney . The largest stone 1.82 centimeters

She also mentioned I will need a few CT scans over the next few months

Post up a pic of your furry companion. :)

Chuck, happy the surgery went well. Now it is time for a quick heal You need to get better for the springtime classic car drives.

Good morning. Dinner last night was rather loud. My soup and salad was tasty. The place we went to. Skippers Pier, has the best seared tuna of all the places we go to. Even though tuna on a garden salad does not sound good it really is a nice protein topper. Tonight, we are going to music and dinner at a restaurant called The Farmhouse. All my pre-surgery tests and doctors' visits are done. Next week it is a visit to the surgeons office and a teleconference call with the nursing end of the operation. Most of my questions have been answered at this point. Getting close to February 6th.
