I don't know, but I sure would like to see the entire knockoff package next to the OE one. Personally, I'm mostly worried about the mounting hardware. I've been burned by cheese-grade chinesium hardware enough times. Nothing a trip to the hardware store won't fix, but it does cut into your savings and your time.

the only ones i am concerned about are the screws that hold the plastic step in place - more for the plastic threads in the step than the screws themselves - but that is the case for the OEM too. therefore, i would never step on just the tip; it was clearly designed to put your foot across the whole thing

Has anyone installed one of these steps with the rear retrieval hooks. Would it push the steps too much out? Would the bolts still fit? Any thoughts

I saw something somewhere (I can't find it now) where someone installed the step with the hooks already installed. They had to trim a bit off the bracket and shave one of the washers to clear the hook. Looked like all of 15min of work with a Dremel or a bench grinder.

Can these be installed on either side or are they only designed for one side?

Yes, I am in the market for the same. I don't want to lose my passenger recovery hook which is what is needed for the bedsteps I have seen available so far.

But if I do the trail exhaust modification, could it be installed on either side? Maybe even put 1 on each side?

The mount and step are oriented for one side. Maybe you can get a shop to fab a mount for 3G bed step to fit on the 4G. But it is simpler just to go with the flow.

I am sure if it fits, then it will not be at the edge of the bed.

I was just brain storming. :) I don't plan on trying to put it on the drivers side.

Just piggy backing off what's been previously stated.. received the eBay step last week. Installation was straightforward and have already used several times.

I'm weirdly impressed by the quality of it.. it doesn't have the OEM part numbers listed anywhere but the paint didn't have any coverage imperfections and the included hardware is decent quality. The tolerances all look OEM.

I do wonder if the pins in the pivot points will rust over time, but I would question the same thing of the OEM step too.

It turns out somebody was making custom recovery hooks and modified the bed step to work.

I have no idea how much of this applies to the OEM recovery hooks. Somebody would have to get both together and see what happens. I have neither and have no interest in hooks, so I'm no use.

Well that sucks. I bought one thinking I can do slight modifications. I guess I will be selling it when it arrives because I have the ARB recovery hooks.
