It's less Tacoma and more mod
I'm probably not a great one to comment because other than home Depot and working for a startup I've mostly worked in state/local government jobs.

Nice nice. UPS is at least a bridge type of job if nothing else and at least the pay is decent.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car, at their Doylestown location, washing cars full-time for $16 an hour. Amanda just got a job as a caretaker for people with special needs, also full-time and paying the same amount. I'm guessing that I start once my background check comes back, and Amanda is supposed to start in early February. The hours sync up perfectly so that Amanda will be able to use the truck on Mondays and Fridays, and will only have to take Uber home on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. It's not my dream job, but I feel like I clicked with my future boss during the interview, and I have every intention of keeping this job until at least the spring of 2026. Scrapping air-conditioners and other HVAC equipment will remain a profitable side hustle, and I refuse to do DoorDash or Uber Eats again. I might apply for a part-time seasonal gig at Spirit Halloween this fall to bring in some extra money, as I hear they are now paying $20 an hour.

    Nice.
    Good to hear bud.

My very first job was detailing cars a used car dealership.
I got to keep what I found inside. Which was never more than a few dollars in change.
But I wasn't there for more than 6 month either. I

I lasted 10 months at Fred Beans, but it was by the vehicle instead of by the hour…

    I was paid on Sunday.
    I worked Saturday and Sunday.
    I was 14 years old.

As soon as I turned 15, I got my hardship license and went to a restaurant cleaning tables.
Worked there until I was almost 18 and then went to a lumber yard.

I am honestly surprised that I got it; I had the interview on Tuesday, I was told I’d hear back by Thursday and did not, and on Friday I was actually talking to my therapist about how to ace interviews because I didn’t think I’d got the Enterprise job. While talking to my therapist, I took my phone out to check my schedule and I got a notification via email that the interview had been a success and I needed to submit approval for my background check!

It has health insurance, paid time off, and a 401(k); I'm also assuming there's an employee discount for renting cars...

I didn’t really want to scrap this, but it’s been sitting under the back deck since last June and my uncle (who knows both muscle cars and wheels) said I could probably get $50 at most; I believe it’s off of a 1971 Buick Riviera…

Amanda’s landlady drives a 2002 PT Cruiser, and she hit a curb with this wheel, so she got a new one and gave me this one to scrap; I got like $24 for both wheels…

Karma is a bitch, and I also believe that the man upstairs is looking out for me. Mostly, karma is a bitch!

One of my former coworkers, a teenager who lives in the city and has a driver's license but no car, owes me gas money for driving him to work; he took the bus from Philly to the Montgomery Mall, and I would pick him up at the mall and drive him the rest of the way to the nursing home (10-15 minutes by Tacoma, instead of up to an hour or more on foot). I haven't been able to get ahold of him, so I called him yesterday and found out that his phone number was no longer in service. Amanda called one of our former coworkers, one of the chefs who still works there, to see if she knew anything (specifically if the aforementioned teen had been fired). She got back to Amanda today, and shocked us both with the news that the entire kitchen staff had been laid off yesterday, and their last day was tomorrow.

So, Amanda and I worked for a company called Sodexo, which is contracted by the nursing home to run the kitchen and serve the residents. The nursing home, which shall remain unnamed, has not paid Sodexo in approximately six months, and has in general not been paying the bills. Apparently, the nursing home has been shafting a lot of suppliers and other people it does business with, and companies won't come to do stuff like HVAC work because they aren't getting paid.

Sodexo ended their contract and laid off their workers, which would have included Amanda and myself if we still worked there (I put in my two weeks and left on November 13th, and Amanda left in December after the events following the infamous Thanksgiving incident made it impossible for me to drive her there and pick her up).

Luckily, the Sodexo people will for the most part be taken care of, and those who have been there for two years or more will be given a generous severance package. Those who have been there for less than two years, from what I understand, have been given the option of either being absorbed into the nursing home's staff, or competing for other Sodexo positions in the area.

I put in my two weeks at the end of October and left on November 13th, 2024; Amanda found a new job a short time later, but an incident occurred on Thanksgiving when I went to pick her up that resulted in me being trespassed from the property, even though I hadn't actually done anything!

I have shared this story before on TW in a different thread and don't feel like rehashing the whole story again, but three men including a 7-foot tall elderly stroke patient physically attacked my truck because I'd unwittingly blocked a crosswalk in front of the nursing home. The man who initiated the confrontation had dropped off a family member and was leaving, while the son of the stroke patient and his girlfriend were about to drop him off. The first guy tried to grab my dashcam after I let everyone know that they were being recorded, and the son of the stroke patient punched the side of my truck as a I drove away, leaving a dent that was thankfully able to be repaired by my trusted body shop free of charge. I did not touch anybody, though I did say in the heat of the moment that I was going to kick the guy's ass if he touched my truck again.

It turned into a finger pointing situation, with differing stories, and the nursing home ultimately decided to have me trespassed despite the fact that their staff had told me that it was unlikely the police would be involved.

I was livid; I am 35 years old, I don't have a criminal record, and I have never been arrested. A bunch of assholes attack me over a very minor parking violation, and I'm the only one who gets consequences? :luvya:

The incident happened on Thanksgiving in 2024 (Thursday, November 28th), and Amanda put in her two weeks on Friday (November 29th), which was her day off. We had no idea at this time that anybody still gave a shit about what had happened, and I waited in the truck on the property without incident, while Amanda talked to the boss.
