    what kind of tires?
why the rear repair if the front was worked on?

Do you know where the noise is really coming from? don't want to waste money on parts not needed

I thought the noise was coming from drive shaft, but dealership said it was front bearings..so, I replaced them..I put new tires on thinking maybe that was problem...I just want it fixed..so, I can drive it..hopefully, rear differential bearings...otherwise, I will have to park it as a redneck lawn ornament ..

I'm having the same problem with my 2009. Had both front wheel bearings replaced and still have the roar. Now they tell me its the bearings in the differential. Taking it in to a different shop for more info. Roar keeps getting louder. Also have replaced rims and a new set of tires.

I'd replace the U-Joints before messing with the differential. What's the maintenance history of the differential? Is it an LSD?

Not sure what a LSD is. Nothing has been done to the differential.

2009+ trucks were all open differential. (Not LSD)

How many miles are on the truck?

If you cant tell if the noise is coming from the front or rear of the truck maybe it is coming from the middle. Check the carrier bearing? I'd drain the real diff oil and see if it looked like it had metal in it next.

Found out that my problem is a rear wheel bearing. Having it replaced this week.

what is the mileage on your taco? is it an automatic (if it matters?)
...curious as to the approximate cost of that repair, is it a DiY task?
and how exactly was it finally diagnosed as the rear bearings?

i am looking after a family '11 reg cab 4wd auto with the 4cyl
it has 108k on it now (bot new 14years ago)
this past winter it developed a rather growly sound most noticed around 60mph in D under 2k rpms (you have to have exceptional hearing to hear it though LoL)
the noise seems to go away (or dissipate at least) in the 70 to 90mph range
also the tires are falkenWP aged 4 years with about 50k miles on them. they measure 6/32" of tread so it is almost time for new tires, maybe those are contributing to the growly noise IDK :notsure: but i highly doubt it is but who knows!

i don't really want to start throwing new OEM parts at it.. my DiY skills are still improving LoL
and i absolutely LOATHE having to resort to a certified professional taking a look at it after the various experiences at these shops trying to diagnose my Gen1 Tacoma when it had an odd noise or other issue that i had no clue about. They have never performed a proper diagnostic to find the issue and has ended up costing me good coin and many headaches after the real issue finally materialized.

i might have to start a new topic thread to get this roar resolved...
