    Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
    Personally wouldn't go less than 4gb RAM and 250gb hard drive (if you need more ROM get and external hard drive, it will be safer to store stuff, especially with having a laptop, a desktop may be a different story).
    I am not a fan of AMD processors, many will tell you they are the just as good as Intel, it is just my opinion but I disagree. My experience with AMD has not been as good, that being said, not everything Intel is great. Either way, I wouldn't go for less than a 2 ghz processor, but if that is truly all you do, than you could possibly go less.

    As for brands, stick woth Toshiba, HP, Dell, Sony. I've seen a lot of defects with Acer, Asus, and to some extent even the HP's (although I would still recomend because they make some very nice laptops).

    Anything else on the computer are bells and whistles that will drive up the price for what you need.

    After all that, for the price, look for a Toshiba Satellite and do research on it.
