^^^^ Federal Airtight! We had one of those for many years. We bought a window kit for the front doors so we could see some fire; they didn't really stay clean for very long though because the stove wasn't designed to keep air flowing over them. Ours had a "catalytic combustor" which supposedly burned off excess residue in the smoke. It was a PITA to maintain.

Took the splitter and finished up what I couldn’t axe. Around 3 1/2-4 cords I think. Hauling starts next weekend maybe.

Just wanted to share a tip I got for the pellet stove. To clean the glass, barely wet a rag, dab in fine ash and wipe clean.

Burning locust and running the stove hotter, during the cold spell, seems to have degraded the air tight nature of the stove. It runs even turned down all the way.

I’ve bolted some stuff to it *lists cool stuff here*
Question for the group, hopefully easy to follow and thank you for your time:

I have a drolet 1800 wood insert, the vermiculite baffle is/has been cracked since I purchased the home (cleanly right down the center so i have still been using it moderately) from what I can see on the interwebs it happens pretty easy as this is a somewhat fragile material.

Also on the interwebs I see that I can potentially replace the vermiculite with a c-cast baffle? is this worth it, last longer? What’s more efficient?

C cast is considerably more expensive. So I can go through a few vermiculite for the price of one. also if I’m missing something and these materials aren’t interchangeable shoot this down too.

(Any luck with knock off from Amazonn? :anonymous:)

The c-cast baffle seems to come from maybe a sister company from drolet, “Osburn” but the dimensions are the same..

Also I guess I could reach out to drolet but TW is more fun of course..

Osburn stove with same dimension https://www.osburn-mfg.com/en/replacement-parts/parts-list/?productId=OB02016

rotated tires changed oil threw out the old air freshener.
check the gasket door seal, pinch a piece of paper in the closed door and feel for drag. If the paper pulls freely, the seal is compressed and needs replaced.

These baffles are a rather recent introduction to wood burners. Yes, they increase burn efficiency, but,....how much.

I would run the split one until it fell out. Then I would replace at and be careful while loading wood.

    I will. Thanks.
    I do that every summer.
A few years ago I removed the top and resealed it.
