I am in the process of replacing my e locker actuator. It seems to do the same thing no matter how I put it in.my Chilton manual says take out the old replace with the new, the instructions that come with it say push the button to engage remove and manually lock the rear, install the disengage. Now what I have found is installing it either way causes the actuator to do nothing but when I remove it it snaps around to the other position. It will operate "properly " just off a battery and the old one does as well. It did work years ago but got stuck in the locked position but did release eventually but never worked again. Any ideas?

If you have a 4wd the E-locker only works in 4Lo.

Does it do anything if you plug it in without installing it?

Only if I connect to a battery out of the diff,if it's in the diff it won't move until I remove it,then it will snap around, but it does nothing when mounted on the diff. I'd make a wiring harness and just operate it with a momentary switch if I knew how to design one. The light still works on the dash if I engage it manually.I do feel like I'm possibly doing something wrong though

Does the light flash when you hit the locker switch?

Yes light flashes when you hit the switch, even drove around the yard swerving lightly trying to get it to engage but wasn't having it,but will stay solid if I manually engage it. Also it won't disengage if I manually engage it.

If the actual teeth in the gear is manually locking back and forth and moving, then the problem is the actuator. If you wanna save some cash, you can pop open that actuator. I bet it’s gunked up. You need some of that yellow Toyota paste or something similar to make it work. Buddy of mine did this to my actuator. None of the shops wanted to touch it or couldn’t figure it out. Here’s a good video explaining. Hope this helps. https://youtu.be/IYmQIyjUqr4?si=cWMFKuH4vRKODFVU

First off, make sure elock slide gear is all the way to the right (unlock) when putting in the actuator. I seen many times where users installed the actuator with the engagement ring on the locker in the engaged position. If that’s the case, nothing will get trigger.

That was how I installed the first time, with the actuator gear all the way to the right.

Sounds like we need to check limit switch wiring, a bit more difficult on the locker due to the 4wd ECU shutting down the reference voltage on the locker circuits when not in use.

    You have a 4wd correct?

Need to access the 4wd ECU and check RLY1 (Connector F12 Pin 13 (Pink)) and RLY2 (Connector F12 Pin 21 (Light Green/Black)).

You will need to be back-probed and ready with your meter when you turn the key on as the circuits only stay active for a few seconds.

With the actuator plugged in and in the unlocked position RLY1 should be 0v and RLY2 should be 5v.

I think you were on DL1 and ADD, RLY1 and RLY2 are on the other connector pictured above.

Alright after testing the other green and black and red and blue(didn't see the blue) I get 11.45 on the red and blue and negative numbers (I would read that as zero on the green and black. This is the plug closest to the front of the truck.

Your on Connector F13, you need to be on Connector F12. There is no Red/Blue wire on F12
