What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Everyone in here is installing diamond axles lately so i figured i would bite the bullet and do it too.


Problem is i ordered mine off Temu.

 

If you lost fluid you lost valuable pressure unfortunately. Hopefully it wasn't much, I'd bet they're low now, the nitrogen volume is low so any loss is pretty major. Also weird yours came with the long hoses, they had revised this so they fit better a long time ago.

 

Probably between a teaspoon and tablespoon per side. It does feel a little squishier but maybe I can use the clicker to harden it up again. Sucks, and annoying that they clearly revised this and didn't inform their previous customers. I sent this info to ADS today so we'll see what they say.
They still won't fully clear my tires at full compression, doesn't look like.

 

They shouldn't necessarily feel squishier at a standstill. But they may perform squishier because as nitrogen pressure lowers the possibility for cavitation increases

 

I probably need a diagram to understand the nitrogen action. But I took it to a rougher dirt road by me and seemed ok.

If I were running ADS I would offer a free replacement set of hoses on my first rebuild. I guess I would be fine with that.

 

yeah those hoses are too long. They re did them so they are shorter with the clickers. That way they can be on the same side as the shock and angled toward the engine away from the tires.

I see you're in AZ. So probably could just drive there and ask them to fix it. Should just be a hose swap and you can get oil topped off and a recharge while you're at it.

 

Still Tucson, so an all day event, at best.

 

ah. Well. Still. I'd call them and at least ask. They have not been very good about email responses it seems lately.

Or you can find a shock place and just get some hoses made at NAPA and then take them to a shock place to swap them in with new oil and a recharge locally if that's possible for you.

 

Well, at least it’s metal and not plastic. That’s a win IMO.

 

Replaced my radiator and Alternator with Denso brand this week. Still going strong at 452,000. Driving from Fla. to Tex. and back this week to pick up the 2025 Casita Travel Trailer. They sure don't make them like they use to. See y'all on the roads and the trails...

 

Well after almost 300k miles the old 2.7 was feeling sluggish and I’ve been getting a rattling from the exhaust. Pulled the cat and it was starting to bust up. Helped it finish what was already started and my truck feels great now.

 

It's wild how much a bad cat can affect performance and driveability on the 2.7.

 

Yeah feels like I have 20-30 more HP now. It’s a little louder under load and the exhaust stinks now but it’s just a hunting rig.

Are they long enough to route down to the front crossmember? That's where I have my fox DSCs mounted.

 

Yeah, I had a hell of a time getting my Fox resi’s mounted, ended up making a mount and had to zip tie the hose tight to the frame to clear the tires, couldn’t find a better way that cleared everything

 

No, they aren't long enough to clear the corner

 

Not sure what Fox was thinking with their mount location. I've got the same ziptie pulling the hose in.

 

Looks like a prime spot to get crunched up on rocks and debris. Is there no room in the engine bay to mount these?

 

Way better than the spot they want you to mount it with the bracket they provide. Hangs lower to the ground and isn't protected by the skid plate
