For the past couple weeks, my 2000 3.4L Tacoma has been running rough. Sputtering at times especially in lower gears. The weather has been much colder so I didn't worry too much.

Yesterday, I filled up with gas at suspect station and promptly got on the highway.

The Taco was running TERRIBLE. The check-in engine light started flashing. I put it in some Lucas fuel injector cleaner. It seemed to run a little smoother (might have been my imagination?). Eventually, the light went solid. Took it into the auto-shop. Code P0304 and P0303 were the errors. Cylinders 3 & 4 were misfiring. I replaced the coil pack and two spark plugs. Check engine light went off. Drove a bit down the road to get groceries. Definitely ran better.

After next start-up, the check engine light came back on. Took it back to the auto parts store to have the code run. This time it was only P0304.

I did add fresh, higher octane gas plus another round of fuel injector. Drove it a bit to see if fresh gas and injector cleaner would help. Nope.

I took the spark plug out of the 4th cylinder. Reattached it. Check engine light went off.

It ran better but still rough.

Everything I've searched for makes it seem and sound like this is a fuel injector problem. Is there anyway to be sure before I invest in that?

You should consider replacing all of your injectors with good quality rebuilt ones. You can get them from MotorWest in Canoga Park, CA. Phone: 747-888-9768. This company specializes in cleaning and refurbishing injectors and has a good reputation. Or you can buy them at 3X the price from your friendly Toyota dealer.

If you search around in this forum you'll find a lot of good info on the subject on how to test them and how to replace them. Check out Timmy the Toolman's video on this.

You should also consider not throwing away money on so-called "injector cleaner" solutions. in my 80-year-old opinion, that's throwing money down the shitter.

It was $8 to put fuel system cleaner in.

I've looked for any way to test the injectors outside of removing them and tearing the ohms. If I am at that stage, I'll replace them.

I'm not a great mechanic. I watched a good video and I think I can handle replacing the injectors. I just don't want to do it if it isn't the problem.

I started having some problems @ 250k you can send them out for refurb or buy new. I ended up having to get a new engine shortly after that on a new to me truck. The jdm engine came with a nice set fixed my problem. Lol originals here's part number.

Why did you have to get a new engine?

I bought it as a project for a great price. Had the toyota tick at 245k when I got it. I drove it it got worse and worse along with other problems lack of power, injectors, oil leaks finally developed hard core rod knock so I pulled the trigger on a replacement. Oil starvation or pickup blockage problems prior I'm sure
Now it's my daily driver it gets used and lives outside

Sounds like you may have gotten a batch of bad gas (with water)
