Wow, just saw this thread and would request an update without reading all 56 pages. What I think I know so far: engine blew oil at 200 miles, dealer was a dick, Toyota cut a check, and OP is looking for next vehicle? Did I miss anything?

Was there ever an explanation about what exactly cratered the engine?

    Thanks in advance! :)

a pressed in oil galley plug of some sort blew out of the engine oil cooler & lost all engine oil in like 2 seconds, bronze kept driving until she locked-up like the stock market on a Saturday...
    unfortunate isolated shit happens incident...

I don't think it's a 'door' per-se. The 2024 AC rear 'door' doesn't open at all. You gotta lean the seats forward to slip into the cab area.
Big mistake on their part if you ask me.

I wouldn't be able to get my Dometic in there with the new design.

I was trying to buy that truck in December when the discount was lighter, then they tried add on some dealer installed bullshit and then shipping to Utah and it just wasn't worth it to me. It just depreciated again after Jan 1 and would still be about $46k to my door without the dealer add-ons. I found 1 in NY and same hard sell, dealer protection packages and $1800 to ship I'd be at $48k for a truck that KBB valued at $37k. And some of this pricing is based on who you finance through. The selling prices go up if you pay cash or get your own financing. I've spoken with so many dealerships in the last few weeks and its all the same bullshit and being an out of state buyer had 1 salesman say "why should I do anything special for you.... you won't service here or buy another truck from me" ! A 2025 will cost the same with nothing off sticker IF I find one that I can go pick up.

I went to Nissan and test drove a 2024 Frontier King Cab (access cab with suicide doors) White 4x4 "S" model (base), 6' bed with a few upgrades. Was pleasantly surpised at how well it rode on the freeway and off. Was definitely a smoother ride than my Gen 3 Tacoma and there was more than enough power with the V6. I actually liked the stiffer hydraulic power steering. The interior is way outdated and the seats are cheap fabric but I didn't mind all the analog features.

MSRP $37500 and they had it at $28500. That price was based on getting Nissan financing which was a ridiculous 8.6% or $31,500 if I pay cash or provide my own financing. They were offering .9% for 60 months on certain 2024 Double Cabs. If I took the finance deal with them it was $32k out the door. Cheaper than a used Gen 3 4x4 with some mileage on it. There are SV trims (Gunmetal Gray), which upgrade the seats, wheels and a few more things, in Vegas for $31,500 ($35k out the door) marked down from $39,400. Heading down this week to take it for a spin and also a 2024 Tacoma XtraCab Prerunner (which I would not buy) just to compare the 2. I will only buy a 4x4 with a 6' bed and Xtra/Access cab. I know the 2024 DC's are selling cheap but not my thing and with a 6' bed won't work in my garage.

I'm now going to put on my flak jacket on, grab a drink and let the bashing begin!

No bashing here. Now that you mention it, I'm surprised no one has suggested a Frontier yet, if you just want a basic truck. (Or maybe they have, somewhere in the past 55 pages)

I just test drove a 2025 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X yesterday for the first time. Drove great, and felt very solid. Steering is def heavier. Some people comment on the turning radious but I couldn't tell a difference. In Canada, they are like $57k out the door compared to the Tacoma which can get all the way up to $100k....

WTF??? Is that Canadian or American? It's definitely a different truck than the Tacoma but it is no slouch. They have a few Pro-x and Pro 4-x here and I think some of them qualify for the .9% financing if a 2024

I had a 2019 or 2020 Frontier DCSB out for about 2 months in 2021. Granted I'm usually in a 2010 single cab so maybe I don't recall a difference in steering because there wasn't much or something else.

Was pretty basic and no fancy radio crap which is what I have, am happy with, etc.

If I had to search for a new vehicle I'd give it a better look, though I'd prefer a 6 foot bed. DC is more than I would ever use or need.

As good as the cab and dash look in the Tacoma I'm just as happy with the Nissan also. It's "retro"..LOL. Having been truckless for almost 5 months I'm really itching for a set of wheels. I thought of a used tacoma and then trade in for a 2026 Xtracab after a couple years, but I rather drive new than used incase life throws me another curve ball and I can't by another new truck again. At least I'll have something that I know how it was treated. No downside

That stuff is all good for me also. Could always replace speakers and add an amp if I want to but besides an actual trip... I'm never in the truck more than 20 minutes at a shot. I good song comes on and I'm home before it ends! And I've convinced myself the less modern technology the less it will cost to repair or replace

If I could choose, I would request no radio in the vehicle before the sale. Less work for me too.

I have a regular CD player single DIN, but tons of CDs and always have some in the truck.

You'd laugh if you saw mine, single DIN Pioneer. Only 3 yrs old but the same design as the original car players.
