Friday afternoon trail riding (self-recovery)

so i just finished up a really stressful week. I had Three tests and a paper throughout the week. I needed to chill and hit some local trails. i recently found one here in Valdosta but it unfortunately everything in South Georgia is FLAT as anything.

So i headed out on the trails alone, which i never do! but i always know i have some buddies that i have to count on (in my fraternity and just friends in general)































I wanted to avoid mud totally but i decided to hit this one mud hole. knowing me i HATE hitting mud fast.
i went waaaaay toooo slow. i high-centered and my rear wheels were completely off the ground. they were spinning in drive and throwing up plenty of mud water.

I didnt have anywhere to be that was too extremely important and i knew if i called my buddy he would give me crap for getting stuck on such a small puddle. i decided to get myself out of this situation and make it interesting.

so the self recovery begins.....

first thing i did was shove some rocks under the rear wheels to get them to stop spinning in "drive" this would provide a source of traction once i set everything else up.

i have two tow straps. One ARB strap and one procomp strap.








i cranked the hi-lift tight.

i had to readjust the hi-lift two or three times before i got a really good pull.

i clamped a adjustable wrench onto the lip of the hi-lift so the rope wouldnt slide around.

the second time i adjusted i didnt even need the adjustable wrench on there at all. the grip on the ARB strap is really awesome. it held onto the hi-lift REALLY well...





i know this is REALLY sketchy but this is all i had to attach the procomp strap to the hi-lift...

-brinks lock pad
-screw driver









Once i cranked the hi-lift as far as i could it basically pulled my truck up on top of the rocks i wedged under the wheels.

AND I GOT OUT!!!










leaving the trail....



i drove over to where my buddy works after the whole thing and showed him how i didnt need his help


















the next day i went out and bought some hooks so i wouldnt have to use the pad lock and screw driver again...












ill be more prepared next time

 

I agree on the sketchiness. But that was pretty innovative.

OP- invest in some 3/4" D-shackles. Would have attached the straps to the hi-lift nicely, and much more safely.

Glad it held in this instance though. Probably because you werent really all that stuck, just high centered on the diff.

 

yea that was the main thing.

I think I would have buried my pride and called the friend.there's a lot of creepy stuff in those pics, but glad you are OK.

I just went downstairs and tried that out just to be sure, but there's no way a D-shackle fits through the holes. You pretty much have to buy the Hi-Lift ORK

Nice work getting out. Is the basket rack so u can load two layers of gear in your truck? I like it.
