I’d be surprised if a 4th gen owner wasn’t raving about their truck and I’m genuinely glad that you like yours. Personally, features aren’t a selling point to me because I own a base model SR currently. If I had to get a different truck tomorrow, I’d get a 2nd gen or another 3rd gen, and I’d honestly go for a Ranger Raptor before a TRD Pro or Trailhunter. It’s still too early in the new cycle for me to feel comfortable with a 4th gen. With that said, enjoy your truck and share your findings with everyone as you own it.

A base SR when yours came out was $25,850 MSRP. that’s $32,261 today.

    a base SR today $31,590.

Seems like even if you value no features, you’re paying the same real amount today

Sure, but access cab vs xtra cab favors the 3rd gen for me. V6 vs the turbo 4-banger again favors the 3rd gen for me. Plus the SX package that my truck has looks so much better than a base SR, which doesn’t have an appearance package option if I’m not mistaken. I’m still picking mine over the 4th, but I think we could go back and forth on this topic forever.

This thread popped up under the “new posts” tab and I chimed in because I think the title leads to an open-ended discussion. To be clear, my first response regarding an N/A V8 was a joke.

The thing that made me get a used 3rd gen from waiting a few months for the 4th gen to drop is the powertrain and price. I know Toyota makes a good product but I don’t necessarily want to be on the frontlines of it.

I have a feeling that there are a lot more 4th gen owners driving around without problems vs the ones who have had transmission failures at this point, but overall I’m the kind of person that would rather get something towards the end of its generation rather than the beginning.

Dang, you must have missed my comment where I address why I responded to this thread. It’s pretty surprising considering it’s literally right above yours and right under the one you quoted. You must have also missed my comments where I said that I genuinely hope he’s enjoying his truck. If I had truly been trolling, I probably would have made a smart remark about the transmission issues, but I even stated that I’m sure there are more problem-free trucks driving around than not. I’ll be sure to tag you in my responses from now on so that you don’t misconstrue anything again. :)

They haven’t fixed one concerning problem. The high price. To get what I have on my ‘23 TRDOR I would have to pay something like $8,000 more. Funk dat.

Certain improvements are worth the extra cost, but not $8k more.

The discounts are a game-changer for Gen4. But I don’t believe they’ll last forever, b/c unlike Jeep, Toyota is an expert at managing production and inventory oversights to support pricing. Might take advantage while you can.

2024 has similarities to 2016, but I’d argue the ‘16’s had even more early issues and associated owner hate (and relentless trolling) than the 2024’s. If you don’t think so, you really need to review those old threads, or ask a new ‘16 owner…like me. Yet, nearly ten years later, a 2016 Tacoma is considered a solid, reliable purchase. No free pass on the 2.4T b/c it has a lot to prove, but history at least favors it.

Some folks are troll obsessed. True fan boys. Any comment other than total worship of the Toyota gods and you must be a troll. No free thought or conversation allowed. When someone has owned every generation of a vehicle, you know they don't know or want to know anything about any other vehicle, much less any negative truth about their particular vehicle. Just throw out the troll card. It's kind of like covering your ears and yelling "Na na na na na" when you don't want to hear what's being said. I've always had the opinion that since manufacturers have people monitoring these kinds of forums, both good and bad aspects should be discussed. You can still love your truck. But pointing out changes you'd like to see would encourage manufacturers to improve their product since people on forums are their hard core and vocal base and so their most important customers.

Nice try but you replied to a comment asking AlphaOmega why he's here. So it in fact was directed at him.

Cool, those particular features don’t fit for you. But you said that the 4g is too expensive for a midsize…when it’s the same real cost as previous trucks. So why is yours not too expensive, but the new one is?

Wages haven’t increased while inflation has. While I will agree that inflation has definitely affected the price changes, I feel that I got more for my money (opening access doors and rear jump seats, V6, and appearance package).

Some of the lower end models aren’t outrageously expensive, but there’s not a midsize truck on earth that’s worth nearly $70k, referencing the 4th gen TRD Pro and TH.

The nominal dollar figure isn’t a reasonable way to compare old and new trucks. My first Gen was $17k new and not a base model, so me saying that a $30k new base model truck is outrageous makes little sense. The reality is that dollars are worth less, and REAL cost is about the same for the same feature set

I don't think Toyota is going to bring back the V6 or add doors to the Xtracab, so if you're waiting for those issues to be fixed (the title of this thread), your only option is Nissan or clean low mileage 2/3gen.

The XC RWD is at least 30k that's kind of expensive for a Rwd pick up. It's like paying snap on prices for harbor freight merchandise. Midsize trucks are not a get your money's worth kind of purchase to begin with.

It's the other guy (AlphaOmega) who mentioned those features. I don't care about the Xtra cab and though I'd rather have a V6, a good turbo four is Ok with me.
