Their definition of old, at least the way I read it, is really broad. Taken directly from their "fine print":
If for some reason you have a concern as to whether the establishment is “old” enough…don’t
worry. We understand that “old” can appear to be subjective. It will qualify if it isn’t new
    construction yet to be opened.

Having done the last 2 of their tours I can say without hesitation they really want to award the points for visits. I can tell you I already have some places in mind near me that are still open for business. There is a diner near me that from the outside looks closed and the interior is seriously dated but they're still operating, but only on weekends for breakfast. I've also been looking into Harley Davidson dealerships located in cities that start with GLM or C where I can snag a poker chip to get the extra points available. A single chip with that starting letter is worth 2 points by itself and I know I can find an establishment meeting the criteria in those towns so I can get 3 points with each of these locations.

I'm figuring on using the "chip" bonuses to help increase my score. Not sure exactly where you're located but there are HD dealerships in Marysville, Lynnwood, and Lacey WA so getting a poker chip at each of those would be 6 points for you.

I will admit where I live is an advantage once more. Just using HD dealership chips within a reasonable ride I can get Chambersburg, Gettysburg, Lancaster, Lebanon, Leesport, Manheim, Mechanicsburg all within a Saturday ride if I chose to. That's 14 extra points right there.

oh okay i can work with that one! ill have to tell the gf about it im sure she would have fun with it lol

also poker chip? i figured that meant a casino? not a harley dealership. i still have to read the rules more to understand it on that part.

I used to work for a HD dealership. Several years ago Harley Davidson started having poker chips produced with the dealership location, name, etc on one side and offering them for sale at dealerships as a fairly cheap souvenir. They take up little space and used to sell for only a buck or two, sometimes the shops even gave them away. You need to consider that Harley makes far more money off the other stuff they sell and market than they make from motorcycles. Harley even sells a pretty neat display case to keep your poker chips in to show them off.

Read through the rules later and if you have questions feel free to post them and I'll try to answer. If I can't I'll post them on the GLMC discussion board to help you find an answer. I happen to love these events because you have months to accomplish finisher status. The themes are supposed to be pretty universal, this organization has people playing in Australia and a few European countries. I think most of us active on this thread are always looking for an excuse to go riding so I post these events here for everyone to see.

I'm on the opposite side of the state, Marysville is probably six hours, Lynwood 5.5, Lacey is probably pushing 7. However, I do have Hells Canyon HD down in Lewiston, ID about 30-40 minutes away.

For my own sake, thinking it through..

Lewiston, ID (x3 for HD dealership)
    Clarkston, WA
    Colton, WA
    Grangeville, ID
    Cottonwood, ID
    Genesee, ID
    Garfield, WA
    Craigmont, ID
    Moscow, ID
    Cheney, WA
Coeur d'Alene, WA (ugh, they moved their HD to Spokane a few years ago)
    LaCrosse, WA
    Connell, WA
    Moses Lake, WA
    George, WA

So that'd be 17 points in about a 3 hour radius of me, a solid half of those are 2.5-3 hours away. I'll think on it.. If I did a push to the west side it'd definitely be doable to grab the remaining needed to finish.

Then get at least the two northern of those HD dealerships
Camano Island, Mt vernon, Coupeville, Concrete, Marblemount, Monroe, Leavenworth, Chelan, Cle Elum....

Ugh that looks so fun. If I didn't already have prior commitments on the 1st I would absolutely be joining you.

    ah...now I see your motive...

will look into this, I foresee lots of cities starting with an L down here in so cal...

    now that's a handsome pup.

and yes there's definitely a certain pride in dealing with the cold when so many people are ready to put their bikes away once it drops below 60 lol. I know that sounds ridiculously high, but here in socal we're spoiled.

I'm still going through the rules for this year myself. On the poker chips, a poker chip from a dealership in a GLM or C city is worth 2 points. A poker chip from other cities but within the state is worth 1 point. Not sure how much that might help you....I honed in on the GLMC locations as they're 2 points.

I was team'sing with my wife at work this morning and got the idea to try and map out an iron butt route that snags the west side of the state cities.. there's a specific one for staying within 1 state, yeah? I think I could make it work..

Makes a lot of sense. Actually gives me a reason to go to a Harley dealership.

And BOOM. That's exactly what this is about. Gets us on the map and planning, and hopefully getting a bud or two to come along, although it also adds purpose to get out for a solo run.

Thanks man. That dog was a game changer. Lost him to cancer last year. Still hard at times. I've got a new pup who's also diggin' the deck and the 360 view of the world it provides.

I think I might hold off due to the weather. Highs in the low 60's on a green track with recent rain makes me nervous.

I stalked your moto thread. I don't know how you managed this but, but props to you! Beautiful finish. I'm a Guzzisti, and my 'newest' bike is very Aprilia influenced. I can see similarities in your battery photos.

Just want to share my reaction to your re-fi.

Yes, there are special certs for both an "in state Saddlesore" and for a "Ride around your state" Saddlesore. @FreshOldTaco and I did the Ride around PA last year.

Is that a Appalachian Trail decal in your window? Have you done it? Coworker here did the entire length but not as a through hike. He did half many years back and the other half the year he turned 60. I did most of PA when I was in Boy Scouts many, many years ago. The halfway point is at Pine Grove Furnace State Park about an hour from my home.

Just took a look, looks like Pullman is almost right on the trail for the ride around! Goes through Colfax about 15 miles away. About 1,320 miles, they give 32 hours for it, 25 hours for gold. My parents house is also about 3/5ths of the way through right on the top left arrow. That stretch along the oregon border on I-84 I've done before and was the closest I've ever come to running out of gas in the middle of nowhere. Nothing for like 150 mile stretch.

Oddly enough this just showed up today.

The long delay for them getting the plaques sent out is because the rider who acted as rally master last year hit a deer in the Fall. Totaled his bike and left him pretty beaten up. I just found it funny that today it arrived.

There's zero chance of doing that in a day (or 25 hours) in my mind. Not unless there were zero speed limits and zero traffic. That stretch of 84 is terrifying, I did that on an R6, basically could go however fast you wanted, but there's nowhere to stop, nothing

I'm so sorry for your loss, I can only imagine. new pup is also a looker, and I'm sure he's helping with the transition.

My pup hit 10 back in October, and every now and then there's a new growth on him. so far all benign so I'm hoping for at least a few more years with him.

ah understandable for sure. I might sign up for another buttonwillow weekend on Feb 15-16 with TrackDaz if you're interested. Not 100% yet though, most of february and march are filled with bachelor parties and weddings for a few of my close friends so it's still up in the air.

in other news, i'm hopefully picking up a Kendon 2-bike trailer this Sunday. Fingers crossed the guy doesn't sell it out from under me.

Yeah, my thought initially was Pullman to Burlington in about 16 hours day 1, then sleep and get up early the next day to hit hwy 2 before it got busy the next morning. I feel Burlington back to pullman could realistically be done in 10 hrs. That'd leave 6 hours to sleep? A single slow down somewhere (looking at you Vancouver) could wreck the whole thing. Lots of tricky spots for traffic timing.

When I was on 14 last I played the game of "lets go however fast the temperature outside is." Did most of that stretch around 90mph. Hot as hell. Didn't help my fuel issues at all haha

Edited to add: theres no gas stops, but there is one place to stop! The maryhill stonehenge replica!

Second edit: I meant hwy 14, on the north side, not 84 on the oregon side. My bad!
