The Toyota OEM ones are actually super inexpensive. You can find the part number here in the forums.

If everything goes according to plan during the install then it's not a big deal, it's when shit goes south, do you have the tools and experience to get yourself out of it? There's something to be said about paying for experience. Also a lot of shops guarantee their work. If you fuck something up it's on you.

    Good morning. :pccoffee:

Definitely agree with your assessment. Yeah, it can seem expensive but you can't put a price on experience. (Within financial reason)

Another item I can have the dealership order if it's not in the kit.

my 2c. This is not a dealership job. DIY or independent truck shop. You don’t want the Camry oil change knucklehead working on your rig.

I've actually been invited to the floor over a question I had about my skid plate/CAT plate rubbing...these guys were ready to remove components in the undercarriage.

I've been trusting them for over 2 years now...I do my own oil changes but all other maintenance, I have had great work done.

Pretty much on a first name basis with Service Department.

I give them great reviews and always remind them about the terrible experience I had down in Milford Toyota...and that I am happy with Dover Toyota taking care of my truck.

funny you mention that. I have the pre-order cat shields from Cali Raised. I should crawl under there and see if I have any rubbing.

Installed an ECT button on my shift knob, retains the factory ECT button functionality as well.

Added a bass knob for adjusting the sub bass level.

Added a momentary push button for those special drivers who need some extra light in their life.

And yes, that's a me-so bucket that I used to install the switch and bass knob.

I have the opposite thought process. Most of the time when they fuck something up or do something improperly you won't know immediately and instead it will cause issues down the line. They are definitely going to have more experience than me but also usually a lot more pressure to get it done quickly even if not 100% right. That doesn't mean I am less likely to mess something up but I personally prefer having only myself to blame and also to know for certain how things were done and how to fix them myself if something happens down the line.

If you have any intentions of taking your tacoma to remote places you really need to start wrenching yourself. That doesn't mean you should start with a big job but try to work up to it. Understanding your vehicle better and how to fix it will get you out of what could otherwise be horrible situations as well as help avoid them in the first place.

A 5.0hr CP job will more than likely go to a Mastertech guy who'll knock it out in 2.0hr and run his time on a Warranty job.

Nice job! How did you wire up the remote ECT? What type of switch is needed?

I used the harness from https://tacomabob.com/. I bought a small momentary button, drilled into the side and up from the bottom on the shift knob. Soldered the wires to the button, fed speaker wire thru the side and down thru the bottom. I used bullet connectors where the wires come out from under the console near the floor so I had a point where I could disconnect this as needed without having to cut wires. The tricky part is threading the knob back on and keeping the wires from twisting since the wires feeds thru the opening on the collar of the shift boot.

I agree with most of your post, but we're assuming a lot about the poster of the original question (unless you know more about the guy than I do.) All I got was "hey guys should I have the dealership install a lift"
