Is there any difference in them other than name?

Was looking into doing the woolwax on some of you telling me to after seeing fluid film talked about here a lot....

came across the hard on version that's supposed to last longer & still made by the same people.

Anybody got any input as to what is what?

    Thts evidently a no.

Only thing I can find is the hard on edition doesn't have to be redone every year.

I've used both FF and WW. The WW came out much thicker and seems to stay on the frame better. Mines not a perfect comparison though because the FF was from a can and the WW I sprayed on with an air sprayer.

I think the woolwax is the better product.

I've used fluid film, I've used surface shield from blaster.

I don't like the way surface shield smells. It smells like nasty solvent and it's really hard to get the smell out of your skin if it gets on you.

I think all three will pretty much get you to the same place.

Theres not many places around me that do under body coatings. It's not very popular where I live.

When I called the people that do it regularly, just to get some advice, Woolwax was the preferred product.

I haven't tried the HardOn version.

A word of caution about the black tinted stuff. Don't. It looks nicer at first. But once dirt starts getting on it it looks like shit, it looks like nasty grease and oil and filth and every time you brush the truck or touch the truck it ruins your clothes.

The untinted version ends up looking nicer in the end. Use a drop cloth taped to the truck with painters tape or you will be cleaning this shit off of everything. It still gets in strange places, but the black is just messier to get off.

Great input & thank you all for sharing your experiences!

Its not for this thread but as a teaser: I may have a guy who will make frames for gen 1';s !!
He's a custom frame maker & when asked if he could, he wanted the prints to look at.

    Hard-on-
Best used on newer vehicles with no surface rust. Vehicles with surface rust should, use Original Woolwax™.

I wouldn’t used it on a 20+ year old vehicle, that’s for sure

If you wash your truck on the underside in between snow storms than rule out FF and WW both. I experimented with a little bit of both and after two underside washings (by pressure washer, not just a drive through wash) it's all gone, both kinds. Now, I know you're not supposed to really wash the vehicle with these products, I know, but I can't stand a dirty undercarriage. However, a lot of it was gone in the first little storm we had just driving through the slush and water.

I used a Cosmoline product (CRC Corrosion Inhibitor) on my other two trucks and those withstood pressure washings. Hopefully no surface rust forms here and in the Spring I'll be doing mine with that. Been too darn cold to even think about touching up FF or WW.

Just my experience, others will vary.

I used an underbody spray attachment for the pressure washer to blast some mud and filth off the frame. Damn fluid film muck ran all over the driveway. This wasn't even with a nice pressure washer either, just an electric cheapo. Looks like I parked some clapped out jalopy in my driveway that leaked juices all over.

I wish I had that attachment, I had to lay my fatass on the ground and do it that way

I used FF and WW black so my driveway is an interesting color. Looks like a mix of tar and cow crap (literally, gotta love farm country).

Did you try the WW HV greasy paste in a bucket you have to literally brush on a very hot sunny day? Or dip your bolts and nuts into before refastening?

I had issues on a gen2 I look after and a front undercover skid plate with severe rusted bolts and welded nuts that broke off some subframe part by the radiator. I coated the all new parts in that HV grease and other than turning to a liquid from the engine heat that blows off and a mild drip it appears to remain fluid on the bolts and threads so no salt water can penetrative and rott away

I'm old and lazy but I hate rust. I do this multiple times a winter when it warms up and 99% of the time I'm in the comfort of my house while letting the vehicle underside rinse itself of salt. The pressure isn't so great that it blasts off the protective FF coating which many pressure washers, especially with a strong soap solution will do.

fwiw, the WW HV product did not noticeably appear to be drippy like that because to turn it into that fluid of a liquid it pretty much has to be near boiling lol, i put it in a saucepan on the stove for a bit to see how it flows, as soon as removed from the flame it starts to thicken back up
