What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I feel like in the end it might just be best to get a shop build the hoses to the length you need. Of course then you are stuck recharging yourself though.

More importantly I skinned the bottom of the diff with 10g to level it with the drain hole bump. So went from this:

Should last another 2-3 years of dragging before I can slap a FF in.

 

So this guy I've been in contact with at ADS actually suggested a version like that. Idk why, since the short ones are clearly a better fit.

Oh, and apparently ADS is owned by Holley. Some people may have opinions about that.

PEAK TACOMA If I had my druthers I'd have THIS^^ in the manual transmission. Unfortunately, they've all rusted to hell and I still have kids to haul around. Give me a tight little number like that and I'd drive it for a trillion miles.

 

Good lord that's awesome. 100% would daily drive that truck. Especially here in SC where salt is... not a concern.

...but don't think that even you would argue about what's closer to a 1st gen - these little trucks, or the Tacomas of today.

A gray version of that little truck - an '89 I think - that one of my high school buddies had in the mid-90s, was what set my sights on my Taco

 

While I agree that the “pre-Tacoma” is closer in spirit to 1st gens than the current models, it’s amazing how much they changed when the Tacoma was first developed.

My brother in law has that exact truck shown above, we’re getting ready to 3.4 swap it because the 3.0 is a gutless wonder. Torsion bar IFS, Y-link steering with steering gear box, passenger drop transfer case and front diff, OBD1 instead of OBD2, etc are just some of the other major differences. Most of which were things they upgraded when they changed to the 1st gen design, imo.

 

Not to mention they just feel infinitely chintzier. Doors and body structure pieces are so much thinner and less insulated, which is surprising because the first gen is already a tin can. Let me know if you need help with the 3.4 swap, I've done a couple of those old to new swaps for the pickups now and I've got access to all the wiring diagrams and everything.
