Came across several YouTube videos showing how to remote start my truck simply by pressing the lock button on the FOB 3x quickly and then press and hold the 4th time. Then the truck starts. Mine does not do this. Is there an option to enable it or do only certain models have this feature?

I have the same remote. Depending on how fast or slow you push the buttons will affect the start. I usualy just go 1-2- hold the 3 and wait till all the lights stop flashing then it should start. Other times I will go 1-2-3 and hold on 4. Either way it works but like mention you have to experiment with it. If you see no lights coming on after the last hold then it will not start. Hope this helps. The system stinks as there are too many damn blinking involved but that it is what it is.

I’ve tried every combination possible of quick presses, long presses…..
Nothing happens. Is this something that’s supposed to work on all ‘22 models?

The factory 3rd Gen remote start seems to be a mystery wrapped in an enigma! Is it tied to a subscription or not tied to a subscription? The answer feels like it depends on who you ask. Also does it depend on the year your vehicle was built? Again, it feels like that also depends on who you ask! It is all so confusing! BTW, the remote start in my 2019 OR continues to function to this day and I never signed up for anything.

    Good info in this thread.
It is possible the feature has been shut off by Toyota until you sign up in the App.
Seems like a lot of people lost this start option in just the past couple months.
I think Toyota either purposely shut it off to get more people on their App., or they had some upgrade in the App that somehow shut it off.

Maybe run your VIN in Toyota’s site and check factory options?

For what it’s worth, I bought my 22 sport used and remote start works

Edit: I’ve downloaded the app but can’t add my truck for whatever reason. I don’t need it but I was curious what functionality the app gives you

I just bought a 22 Sport in November. The remote start worked before I set it up in the app. It works every time for me if I do 2 short presses then hold a third, with a half second between each (with the lock button).

As for not being able to register with their app, if you bought it used, you can call them to get that fixed. They’ll have you email them proof of purchase. I don’t use the app directly very often, but it has iOS Shortcuts/Siri integration if you pay the subscription fee, so I can just say, “Siri, start my truck.”

You crack me up, Buck! lol

    OP

I bought my 2021 new and the salesman added the App to my phone at time of delivery.

The 12 month subscription was nice to have but I did not renew and the truck's Remote Start still worked.

The App closed out a couple of times on my phone but auto-signed-in for a while...then it didn't.

Since the App still kept info on my truck like dates of service/recalls, I wanted that info...so I signed back into the App.

It was then that I learned about the enabling of Toyota keeping track of my driving habits.

I agreed to terms without subscription thinking I'd lose the ability...and did not want to take that chance.

Remote Starts works fine for me...for like 10 years! (That's what I heard/read)

The key presses are what bewhiskeredbard says below.

    That’s good to know, thanks!

I took the time to read through all 6 pages of that link. Sure looks like the mother ship takes control and can disable the feature depending on whether or not you have the Toyota Connect app and what sort of sharing you allow. It’s hit or miss though. Not 100% consistent.

From what I've read in the past year or so, everyone's experience is different...which you identified correctly...IMO.

I bought this truck used last year from a dealer. I just called the guy I bought it from and he said he would try to dig into it to see what he can find out, but did elude to the fact that it may have been shut off after 1 year. He told me the timing of the buttons can be finicky though and keep trying to get it to work with different timing. If that does not work, he says I would have to download the Toyota app, scan in my Vin and opt for a 1 year free trial.

Not sure if you can get another free trial period...maybe there's a way to do that--I would ask the dealership.

Otherwise, download the app and link to your vehicle and use without subscription.

You'd have to allow certain tracking on your truck to (hopefully) allow Remote Start (I would venture to guess for it to work).

It’s 3 presses, not 4. Long press on 3 until headlights flash then it starts.

remote start is not tied to any subscription.
