A gimmick is just something that gets attention, like giving away a prize to get sales, it doesn’t imply fraud and I didn’t imply the faraday baggies don’t work, they’re just an unnecessary expense as the fobs can be turned off and no longer transmit a signal. It also prolongs their battery life.

Push button start cars take about 5 mins to drive off with. Its the worst piece of tech ever put into cars.

OP, did you have any sort of anti theft measures? If not, you learned your lesson I hope (especially considering your geographic location).

I've seen numerous genius posts on TW saying "if they want it bad enough they'll steal it anyway, so no need for any anti theft measures"...this is total horsecrap and shows how ignorant folks are.

I have 4 layers of anti theft and my truck has been attempted to be stolen 3 times in 5 years and it's still in my driveway.

The only one that can/will protect your property is you.

Sorry to hear about your truck, but you're right. Some cartel's teenager is driving it by now. Lived in SD County most of my life. Good luck with the insurance.
Drive a beater that's mechanically good.

I'll bet it was boosted for a job. Cargo transportation of sorts. Once that's completed it'll likely be dumped somewhere in a partial state. o_O

Those are useless if someone pulls up using a wheel lift, you just need an alarm monkey.

You left out razor wire, guard dogs and Claymores.

That's just it, many vehicles are just yanked from their spots. Our metro PD finally busted a few independent tow guys, that were apparently using their tow services as a shell for their real money-maker,,, vehicle theft.

The diversity is 0 for 3 in half a decade vs my truck.

    Record speaks for itself.

And no, to get a tow truck into my yard will require some engineering and beyond that, a gunfight.

You guys do you, but don't go whining when your shit gets taken and you could have done basic things to prevent it.

Tracker in car, I live on a dead end, and I own guns. I’m in far north county SD and I’ve never heard of this happening in my neighborhood. On top of that I’m a light sleeper so I’m honestly shocked I didn’t wake up to the sound of it starting. I lived in San Francisco and Berkeley for 5 years where auto theft is way higher and never had an issue. Feels like the cartel had orders out for my specific truck.

I know how you feel. I woke up partially when my bus got stolen, I even dreamed that I was hearing a VW engine. But I fell back asleep shortly afterwards. Pretty sad when you go outside to pick up the paper and first see that empty spot where it used to be parked.

I have to park my truck outside, but always park it facing the barn doors which also makes it a bit harder to use a lift. But there’s not much one can do if you drive to other places away from home where it would be exposed. Engine kill switches are a good idea, I’d probably still have the bus if I had used one. But even those won’t stop a lift.

    It looks like six. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If you locked the truck and kept a fresh pile of dog shit by the driver's door, you'd have eight..

Doesn't matter if the vehicle has PTS, key, or whatever, thieves can steal vehicle no matter how. Car, truck, classic, etc. Even sometimes, they bring the flatbed truck to steal the vehicle..

Best to do is, block your truck with your spouse's vehicle. Thieves hate wasting time to move vehicles around. Or keep the truck in the garage if you have it.

Unless you have big land, you can park the truck out in backyard with locked gates.

When I was in college, one of my dumb roommates had his Toyota truck repossessed even though we blocked it in with our cars. That doesn’t work either! They were nice and put our cars back where we had parked them.

That is different because that truck driver gets paid to repo a vehicle which means he can move vehicles so he can repo that specific vehicle. Thieves do the quick way to steal or move on.

Still wondering if it is *safer* when approaching mine to wait until right there next to it to hit the unlock button (key with clicker style, no push button start) as opposed to 100 ft away. Basically, it it less vulnerable to broadcast the frequency from only 3 ft instead of 100 or it makes no difference.
