How many miles do you have on your SC taco? Just trying to see where the numbers get us here. Mine is at 50k.

Put my SC on at I think around 20k miles. I'm over 50k miles now.
Side note: I see people say they get 20 or so mpgs per gallon, but I have rarely seen anything over 18. But, I tend to step on the skinny often too. I average around 14 mpg.

Yes I do get 19 to sometimes 21 mpg. I even got 19 to 20 hammering on twisty back roads for commuting one summer, hammering pretty hard, this was a pleasant surprise, but the truck is empty, and i have several other things that contribute to better economy, tonneu cover, larger exhaust, mechanical fan delete, variable speed electric fan (with sensor at bottom of rad, to take full advantage of 'free air' and minimize electric fan use), Stock suspension.

Where are y'all mounting your winch controller? The LTR now lives in the space I had it mounted.

I installed the LTR pump down in the lower right of your picture.

On my Smittybilt winch, I was able to mount the controller offset to the passenger side.

Edit: here's a pic - if I remember, I had to move the pump to different spot than was in the Magnuson manual. I think I added a rivnut for the pump bracket bolt.

Putting the controller that far down will be a last resort. Guess I'll have to fab up a bracket of some sort.

That's where I have mine mounted also. I don't like the brackets that place it in front of the radiator. Being in AZ I want all the airflow through the AC condenser lol.

Just FYI, there is a service bulletin for these trucks, for poor AC performance in slow or stop and go traffic, extensive mod, that adds a aux electric fan, relay and is controlled by the AC computer, via the AC pressure sensor. It also adds several plastic plugs and I think some foam, to cap or plug the holes & gaps surrounding the radiator; blocking off shortcuts for air to skirt around the rad, instead of through it.

I tried to purchase parts of the kit, I already have a variable speed electric fan, and hate letting anyone work on my vehicles; so wanted the plugs and relay and harness; Toyota would not sell me the parts, without telling a story, so I made my own baffles and used black foam sheets and adhesive, to seal off the body holes and gaps, surrounding the radiator. More Free Air = less running the electric fan. I did also add my own relay, to accelerate my fan, controlled from the AC computer. Just followed the TSB and made my own harness. Is nice now on hot days in a slow moving traffic and even with a cold engine idling while parked; AC blows cold.

You may be able to purchase the parts, with VIN and story; I walked away when they announced the requirement.

I am aware of that TSB. Like you I'd prefer not to have someone else work on my truck. Also the truck is just my toy and not a daily so it hasn't been an issue. Even Idleing on the trails in 100 degree heat. The AC has always been cold surprisingly.

This makes sense to me. I'm kinda the opposite of setup with overlanding equipment (full racks, skids, sliders, winch, retrax cover, etc..). I'm not an overlander per say, but have been caught off roading on my own and a little stuck or stuck in a snow traffic jam where everyone was running out of gas and food on the highway. I'm not a prepper either, but this one area of not having the ability to self rescue or self sustain for longer than others is the challenge for me.

Re-posting from the 5.29 thread - Looking for ideas to resolve an issue.
Have run the SC since about 10K. No issue, carries great - but had the continual gear searching issues we all had. Decided to go 4.88's and it solved the problem and truck drives way better now with the combo of SC and Re-gear. ISSUE -at highway speed for more than 1/2 hour, if it downshifts to pass, it stays stuck in 4th or 5th gear. Have to pull off, shut it down and wait a few mins and all good again for a while.
Suggestions done so far - Trans service (fluid change only), disconnect battery overnight to let computer reset gear shift program, contact Magnusson (they say the tune is fine as is).
Suggested and Not tried - Contact and install the OTT tune.

Anything else or has anyone had the SC and 4.88's and similar or no issue?
Thanks for any insight to this.

I run 488's and the SC, no issues whatsoever. I also got the OTT tune and run the medium setting. I just put 4000 miles on the truck going from Texas to Virginia and back, no issues at all. I got about 16mpg on good days, the lowest 13mpg when I was loaded in the back with suitcases and crap. I run 33s and the Fox2.5 suspension, my application is just hwy driving and nothing else. I am guessing your issues could be that the initial tune you got plus the 529's limited you on the high RPM band which is what some people complaint about. I think tuning your unit will solve your issue and limits. I like the 488's with the SC combo because I don't intend to go to 35's and don't have any extra weight on the truck, just city and hwy driving. Good luck sorting things out - don't give up.

hey there i am back with another much appreciated ask for insights....

Anyone happen to be running the SC with 35s on 5.29s with the 8 in rear diff?

As i am contemplating all of this, it occurred to me I have the sport and that has the smaller diff. So wondering if I am asking for an issue running the extra power and torque through the smaller diff vis having the larger one. for bonus points, i can see myself dropping to the 87mm pully.

I mainly stick to "blue" trails when off road, so wont exactly be hammering it, but it's my daily driver so dont like any chances.

I have been asking others about this and I feel it is not ideal and I am thinking of options. But wondering if anyone has any real life experience on reliability here.

Any help / info is very appreciated!!!

I've got a week and almost 200 miles on the SC and I'm totally McDonald's.
