I will say the employees seem to be into the small scale stuff and are always working on some projects based on a scx24 or something else.

I did a function check of my axles with the driveshafts disconnected.

My front wheels spin pretty smoothy front or back

My rear wheels won't spin at all by turning them, but they'll turn if I spin the driveshaft connected to it

Pulling off the diff cover to see what's going on...

Exactly my suspicion. Too much play on the upper wormgear. But nooooooo, 1 oring is how it's supposed to be. All that gear slop is acceptable :crapstorm: bigger oring seemed to fix my issue kind of like in the video. I also have various metal washer shims arriving today from amain to mess with different preload in the gears

From what I understand. In a worm gear setup the wheels should not be able to turn back and forth freely unless turned at the upper worm gear. Via driveshaft in your case

This is pretty normal for a worm gear axle

I know on ar45 axles reverse was binding due to pinion needing shimming. Could try that

I'll keep this in mind along with that video.

A function check yesterday (running the actual motor) showed nothing but absolutely fluid motion.

If on a descent it starts "stuttering" I'll definitely come back to this.

From what I've read. If you can free spin both foward and reverse at the tires....thats not good

My shit wouldn't bind with all 4 tires off the ground. Once weight of the truck was on the ground the rear end would bind up

    No no

The rear at the wheels doesn't turn at all by hand, but does via driveshaft

The front turns freely at the wheels by hand forward and back, and via driveshaft

The vehicle did not experience any issues at all when turned by the motor either

Think there was confusion answering two people lol you guys already covered why the rear won't turn by hand at the wheels (cause of the worm gear)

I didn't know that was a characteristic of a rear worm gear setup

I've honestly attributed the down hill stutter to the worm unbinding and then binding again on descents. When I have a moment I'll have to watch this video

Just pulled both apart. Front first. One O-ring on the driveshaft side of the gear only.
Added 2nd O-ring to the other end, assembled and it was tight as hell, no spin.
Removed 2nd O-ring. Removed stock O-ring from driveshaft side and placed it on the other end. Assembled and tested by hand, axle spins via the wheel, in forward direction only.
Installed and tested on downhill. Big improvement in the front, became apparent there was still something in the rear.
Took the rear apart, same thing, moved O-ring to back of worm gear. testing by hand, was not able to spin via the wheel, spun fine via shaft.
Installed in vehicle, 90% of the lurching is now gone downhill in forward and reverse. Smooth as butter uphill and on flat ground. I'll run with this for now.

Hell yeah thanks for posting this

Nice to see you can start tackling these things ahead of time without the new transmission or mount

Just wanted to stop in and look, maybe spend money.
Gonna visit the local guy here in town around 1:00 when he opens up, see what he has in stock for bodies.

I'm guessing the meus axles have better tolerances (the metal). They spun so smooth prior to install. I tried them without drag break and the truck rolled. I never expected the worm gear axles at this size to free wheel like that.

I'd say it is worth stopping in for yourself once at least. I was in Greeley a bit more during Oct-Dec and popped in a few times. It's based out of a crummy truck mod shop so temper expectations

Yeah e team is over there off link lane. I like the electronics shop over there called mountain states electronics. And there is a place for nuts and screws over there too called cd fasteners. I get all my RC hardware there and should inquire about the smaller stuff too. Are you aware of those two spots?
