My friends father had a 63 or a 64 Buick with a 430 wildcat. I remember it had some kind of funky transmission. Automatic but it was something like park neutral drive 2 1 reverse?

Yeah, this one just missed out on the dual pitch torque converter but I did see one on a Station Waggon towing a boat once. Gave you High/Low in each gear. My Pontiac has a reverse valve body. Not gonna lie, it took some gettin’ used to. :)

I’ve got a couple of these OBDII dongles, one wifi the other Bluetooth. Amazing what they can do when pair with a phone or laptop.

One thing is, the price has jumped significantly over the years since I got them so factor that in your purchasing plans.

Just real ones in a box downstairs somewhere. Only got room for one at a time. When I finally start twistin’ on my own wrenches for a change, I’m gonna be right busy. Maybe I hear the “Fat Lady” humming’ in the background but after the first day back it’s sure nice to feel appreciated. :)

Until the early 1960's manufacturers used different shift patterns and pushbuttons, Chrysler especially was noted for the pushbuttons.

A GM (Powerglide) car you might pull the lever all the way down for reverse - however on a Ford (Cruise-O-Matic) all the way down was low. You can start to see the potential hazard for fleets, rentals, parking attendants or even just borrowing a car.

The end of it was that the Fed Gov't began requiring a standardized P-R-N-D-2-1 shift pattern in vehicles they purchased, pushbuttons and reverse all the way down would have eliminated those manufacturers from bidding - big money loss potential.
