If you don't mind waiting, I'd tell RCI to schedule a pick-up. Normally, I would go out of my way to work with small, local businesses, but RCI knows that they are improperly packaging their products and they refuse to address it (which wouldn't be that difficult to do). They don't care because it's more of a burden for customers to have to deal with this issue (and wait for a likely-damaged replacement). If they give you hell, just file an FTC report (it's easy), and they'll e-mail the company for you. Customers never pay for return shipping on damaged items - that's illegal. The most popular off-road mechanic/shop where I live warns all customers about RCI and states that most products they receive from RCI arrive damaged. I wish they cared. It saddens me that they don't.

Also, my sliders just arrived with gouges in them and holes in the boxes. RCI wants me to spray paint them. That's what they do. They save money on packing materials, damage our sh*t, and then tell customers how to "fix" them. Not very American.

Can you post a link to this law? I'm in a similar situation myself.

It's a "consumer right". I'm sure you can Google it, but if you're in a position wherein a company is arguing with you about it, just file a complaint with FTC and let them act as a free mediary. Also, we don't ever need to purchase shipping insurance. I'm seeing a lot of companies basically scamming customers into believing we do. Nope. The only time said insurance would benefit a customer would be after delivery - if a porch-pirate snagged your package. Otherwise, by law, you need to be delivered exactly what you paid for - not a damaged item...not a missing item. And it's not on customers to have to deal with delivery carriers and insurance claims. Good luck! I got tired of getting ripped off. Now I just leave damaged items by my door and have the company schedule a pick-up. If the package is thrashed, I let them know it is up to them to decide whether or not they want to have the insufficiently packaged item professionally re-packaged.

It is disappointing to hear all this about RCI - I got my skid plates from them and they were fine and packaged properly - no damage so why can't they package sliders properly? I got my sliders (body armor) from a shop and they were perfect - I don't know if the shop had to touch them up or not. That said I kind of take chances and do some things I probably shouldn't so my sliders and skid plates have taken some hits. I just rattle can them (on the skid plates the paint doesn't even match) and leave it at that. I agree with who ever said powder coating is over rated at least on stuff that is going to take a beating on the rocks.

It's disappointing, for sure. I just can't wrap my head around the fact that they put energy into creating quality products and then to save a buck throw em in a box knowing they're very likely going to arrive damaged. Off-roading enthusiasts are pretty great customers, and seem to be loyal to brands and small business. I'm not losing sleep over my beat up sliders, but relying on the fact that customers will be cool with damaged items ("just go out and buy a $25 can of spray paint & fix them yourself"), just so they can save a buck on shipping, rubs me the wrong way. Anyhow, purchasing from a shop (and not directly) is probably the way to go, if you're set on RCI.

Had mine arrive today... one of the sliders were peeking out of the box to say hello. Scraped up from being dragged. I'm going to Email or call RCI and see what they want to do. I get that they're "armor" but I did pay for new, I haven't opened them up since I was leaving the house. I just moved them into the garage quickly and took off.
