They are both using basic cast rotors. I’d suggest considering the Wilwood superlite kit with 2pc directional rotors that are lighter and will cool significantly better than straight vein. It’s priced in between the kits you are looking at. I wasn’t super impressed with my StopTech ST60 340mm BBK. The powder coat durability wasn’t great. Since you are buying into the ecosystem, consider pad and rotor replacement cost and availability if you view that as important. SOS performance usually has a pretty good coupon code for the StopTechs, 10-20% off, another thing to consider.

The only issue with the Wilwood superlight kit is that it's a 355mm rotor and, I think, only fits wheels 18"+. I'm likely going to go with the Wilwood 338mm slotted rotor kit. Thank you for your advice.

There is a 327mm version for the Tacoma, I was considering it for my 17" wheels before going with StopTech.

Spec volume I do not. However I bet 1 complete container would be adequate.

Thank you for those part numbers, I ordered the 2010+ 4Runner dust shields for the same Stoptech 340mm BBK from SOS because I am still running the stock ones and no matter how much I try to bend them they still rub the rotor from time to time, you can only bend them out so much until they contact the tie rod.

However I am wondering if the 4Runner dust shields will clear the JD Fab spindle gussets on my 3rd gen, I guess maybe I will have to find out the hard way since I won't know until I install. I doubt anyone here is running the 4Runner dust shield with the same spindle gussets on the same BBK.

Sorry hijacking this post a little.
I have a 05 v6 tacoma and I want to also do the drums and rear shoes but I can't seem to find the part numbers. Looking through the forum I see some people say OEM but they so mention that there are 2 oem from dealer one good and the other bad but part# was not listed. Thanks for the help.

Upgrading my brakes soon as I give the truck to my daughter as a first vehicle.it has almost 200k on it so, will be doing it all. This post was a perfect find with part numbers for the stop tech. Just need to find some coated rear drums (preferably not painted) and all the components to match.

Will this work for 3rd gens?, is this still possibly the best option for off the shelf without brake modification? Also anyone know where to get the best deal on these looks like they are about 230 each everywhere which seems pretty steep for one rotor

I am not aware of what turd gens come with, besides a worse motor, worse transmission, same frame, and same suspension for double the price.

if I was looking to make a proper brake set up, I would be looking at mathematically correct dimensions and not seasoning on inadequate dimensions.

because I was poor, I have the latter at this time until further correction.

I do have more correct sizing new 4runner calipers in storage that I got for a deal. But nothing else yet.

Looks like this thread is still alive. Thanks for the great info!

I installed the Stoptec kit from SOS Performance last Summer (''23) for pulling a 3,400# boat up and down the mountains. It made a world of difference and saved my truck in downtown Atlanta rush traffic one day.

    Two questions:

I've developed a significant clunk sound in my front end. I hear it when I apply and release the brakes and the typical clunk when I reverse. I've read about a pin that could be installed to reduce this clunk. I had the front hubs replaced last week, and this did not eliminate the clunk, but it did remove the drone sound I was dealing with. The install was around 190,000 miles. I'm nearing 229,000.

When it comes time to replace the pads, is the $218 SOS pad pack the best option?

Great question. That's my next point to check out. I replaced UCAs, shocks, and coils last March. Haven't touched the LCAs.

I'm pretty sure my local shop sold me the economy version of the oem Toyota pads a few months ago. They have no bite, the truck doesn't stop very well in comparison to the oem pads they replaced and the rear drums are still squealing like a pig at low speed stops after being cleaned and lubed twice.

Anyway, I ordered these for the front (appears I got the last set)

    https://autobrakesolutions.com/prod...17~mk_toyota~md_tacoma~ix_all~lh_all~in_front

and new oem drums and oem shoes for the rear.

I'm planning on swapping them out in the next couple of days. I'll report back if the new pads are worth the squeeze imo.
