Painting Steel Wheels

Honestly, I don't remember, I know I bought clear but it seems like I tried one and it didn't lay right so I just went with the black

 

Can anyone comment on long-term durability of a spray can paint job on steel wheels? I have brand new wheels in black that I want to paint silver, but if there is a chance they will look like garbage in a year or less, I'll leave them alone.

I'd rattle can them. I'm not a fan of powder coat, too hard to touch up. Just use a good wheel paint, especially if you're going black.

 

I know this is an older thread but.

I was going to buy some alloy rims but I am going with plastidip and making the logo white on the cap…. That looks pretty cool and a $#!t ton cheaper….

 

Looks great. I feel inspired!

 

Old thread, but since it’s been brought back to life, I wonder if you guys are removing the tires from the wheels before painting. Mine are all stock and have lots of rust. Pretty sure it’s just surface rust, but looks ugly.

 

Won't hurt to scuff it up and spray it then!
