So I’m still new to all this. So forgive me. Has anyone had their Gen 4 tuned? If so, was it worth it? I hear it helps with gear hunting, smoother ride, slight improvement in mpg, etc.

Not trying to be rude but have you driven a 4th gen Tacoma? Gear hunting is pretty none existent with the 8 speed transmission and additional power. At this point few people will opt for a tune due to voiding warranties.

Your TH has three separate tunes. Eco, Normal, and Sport. Is there a specific reason why you seek something different? In nearly 8K miles now, my TH is smooth as silk. This is not your discombobulated stock 3G of old.

His profile says he owns a 2024 TRD Pro
I'd have to guess he has driven one.

    As for tuning it.
Most tuners are having to get their tunes state/epa certified.
    That takes times.

Not to mention actually getting into the raw data to actually build the tune.
Then you have to test the tune. And test it some more.
Only then should the tune be released.

We're making headway. With the pace of back-end developments, we have to adjust our release timeline as we're opting to offer a complete package vs. something half-done just to bring "something" to market.

If you're interested in a sneak peak of what's coming/possible with this platform, Below is a run from a Beta file which is compatible with Regular through Premium grade fuel. We're still working on the calibration, but there is massive power potential relative to the previous generation's N/A engines. While this chart only shows WOT power, the calibration enhancements at part throttle are as as big or larger. There is noticeable improvement in spool and part throttle torque.

Towing trials and data analysis have shown the increase in torque available at part throttle can improve (lower) transmission temperatures allowing the converter to stay locked or in a gear higher than it would have otherwise in stock form.

I think the best way I can summarize the current landscape for tuning the 4th Gen trucks would be: They don't necessarily "need" a tune like the 3rd Gen did, but what is possible, and what you can gain is 3-fold what was possible on any of the prior generation trucks. These things make 5.7L Tundra torque and horsepower tuned - in a midsize!

Had the OTT tune in my 3rd gen (2021 Sport)…….big fan…….

yes, the 4th Gen doesn’t have a lot of same issues (gear hunting), and I like the 3mode selector, BUT am patiently awaiting OTT tune for the 4th gen……..to put me on par with Ford and Chevys HP and torque.

Shouldn't be a problem with gear hunting with 465 tq and an 8 speed transmission

Given the weight difference between the hybrid and non hybrid Tacoma with this upcoming OTT Tune do you think the non-hybrid Tacoma might be a bit faster than the hybrid?

From a 0-60 standpoint, yes. There has already been testing on that and a tuned TRD Offroad Premium is quicker to 60mph than a TRD Pro.

I think there is a video from a independent tester launching soon with this as part of the video.

Wow that's great news! Can you confirm these are the two models you tested? Also once you release this is the 2025 4Runner going to be much different to program the same tune?

Wouldn’t the OR be on smaller tires than the pro?

The test vehicle used was a TRD Offroad Premium Vs a TRD Pro

So what you're showing there looks accurate. The Pro is about 600lbs heavier than the Offroad.

You are correct that both were tested with the original tires/wheels they were originally equipped with.
