I had a 2wd GMC truck years back. It was a manual trans, 4.3L and had spent its previous life pulling a trailer for a commercial mowing business. It had helper springs on back and sat SO much higher in the rear that it looked like a damned drag car.
I swear, when I took those helper springs out, I lost like 2mpg. Those front end leveling kits that get your front up into the wind, hurt your mileage.

OH AND THE HITS JUST KEEP ON COMING!!!!!

Yesterday as I was leaving work I got a call from Jennifer @ Toyota Corporate. Told me that they are backing Todd on this one. Anything electrical in the vehicle could cause something electrical to anything thing thats electrical. I raised the issue that the Cig Plug is powered from that same fuse block so if I plug in a phone charger that could cause the engine malf? She says "well that's the way they are explaining it to her." But ultimately they are closing the case and there is nothing more to do.

    Un-F*****G-Believable.

I give her the same thing I have said over and over - Magnusson Moss puts more ownership on you to provide conclusive proof that this is the cause. I remind her that I've pulled the radio and MPG isn't improving. I tell her that Toyota is now no better than any Chevy and we are done.

Then this morning THE MUTHER FLIPPING TRUCK DIES IN TRAFFIC AGAIN.
I go straight to O'Rieley and had the code pulled. P0300 Random Misfire. Looking that up it means P0300x is the cylinder. Where X specifies the cylinder that failed. But P0300 with NO X means multiple cylinders.
    upload_2025-2-1_10-7-22.png

So I Upload this... To my now CLOSED complaint with Toyota.
    upload_2025-2-1_10-8-31.png

I AM BEYOND SPITTING NAILS PISSED AT THIS POINT.

We have a situation here where the wife is still temporarily in an wheel chair and I need this truck to get her around. I can not be with out this vehicle.

Jennifer/Todd never revisited the "nicked fuel line" either?

    NOPE!

When I pointed out that the radio install never went past the firewall and the fuse panel they were showing me was INSIDE THE CAB that problem was never brought up again and when I asked about it Todd Gas Lit me that no that was never an issue it is this "spliced wire" that wasn't even really a spliced wire.

And the truck isn't and hasn't ever leaked fuel or produced a fuelly smell that would lead me to believe that there was anything wrong with any component that contained fuel.

Are all of the aftermarket electronics disconnected now?

If so, this is a new issue, and should be treated as such (not reopened on the previous ticket). Is there another dealer within a reasonable distance? You just need someone to actually diagnose it, beyond pointing to a smoking gun like the fuse taps (whether or not they are relevant).

Or just go to an independent shop while you still have the codes. O'Reilly's / AutoZone doesn't always see the full picture (and they're not qualified to diagnose either).

Crank Position Sensor maybe? I've read several threads in the past that seem to have similar issues to yours. Dies on them, re-start and goes to limp mode. Then later some would start as if nothing happened.

All of the electronics are removed.
    • No Radio.
    • No dash cam.
    • Not even a phone cable. I'm Raw dogging it w/o Apple Car Play.
    • Nada.
I'm not even using the air-conditioner.

Why is this a "new" issue when both issue happened:
    • On a cold start.
    • Going up a slight incline / hill.
    • Under moderate acceleration.
    • About .75 to 1 miles from home.
Just because they were wrong about the radio doesn't make this a new issue. They never proved that it was the radio. In my mind this kinda proves that it wasn't the radio.

I made an appointment and tried to drop it off at Right Toyota on Frank Lloyd Wright in Scottsdale. I hear good things about them.
Right off the bat he wanted to get me into a loaner or rental. When we got into the nuts and bolts of the issue though, he held back and had different advice.

He said that this was a Corporate Issue and Corp needed to direct me to one of their service centers. If they tell me I can go there, then he's good with it and happy to do the work, but doesn't want to assume responsibility for the vehicle until Toyota corporate provides that instruction / approval. He said some times you can go to the shop of your choosing and some times they want you to take it to a specific shop.

So now I wait for a call back on Monday.

I think this might have been mentioned, but have you considered taking it to another shop like Yota Pros in Tempe?

Was going that route until it happened again.
Going to give Toyota one last shot (at a different shop) to make this right. But yeah - if it's not fixed this time I go to a Toyota Certified Shop.

I have heard of cheap phone charging cables causing weird electrical issues.

I'm just saying it's a new problem (or at least new details / condition) for Toyota to look into, because now you're having the issue after addressing the supposed root cause.

Conversely, if you had the same issue while the radio was still hooked up, and took it back to the same shop as before, they'd say they already diagnosed this one. That's what I mean by "new".

What a nightmare. Honestly a random misfire can be anything. Check you spark cables maybe one is loose, if toyota wont do anything I would start by changing those cables and spark plugs. Also I would strongly consider taking it to an highly rated independent mechanic.

your MPG is good, you need to relax on this. I get the same. The engine dying in traffic is the issue. Something to do with spark

    Not to my recollection...?
I had a dead battery prematurely.
I had a recall for welding spatter.

Then I had the truck die on 11-29 and that was the first code it threw. Same issue in this thread all of the way through.

Well we be getting much closer after this next trip. Arizona has a tougher Lemon Law than most states.

From the Arizona Revised Statues: 44-1264. Reasonable number of attempts to conform motor vehicle to express warranty; presumption

    A. It is presumed that a reasonable number of attempts have been undertaken to conform a motor vehicle to the applicable express warranties if either:

    1. The same nonconformity has been subject to repair four or more times by the manufacturer or its agents or authorized dealers during the shorter of the express warranty term or the period of two years or twenty-four thousand miles following the date of original delivery of the motor vehicle to the consumer, whichever is earlier, but the nonconformity continues to exist.

    2. The motor vehicle is out of service by reason of repair for a cumulative total of thirty or more calendar days during the shorter of the express warranty term or the two year period or twenty-four thousand miles, whichever is earlier.

    B. The term of an express warranty, the two year period and the thirty day period are extended by any period of time during which repair services are not available to the consumer because of any war, invasion, strike, fire, flood or other natural disaster.

    C. The presumption prescribed in this section does not apply against a manufacturer unless the manufacturer has received prior direct written notification from or on behalf of the consumer of the alleged defect and has had an opportunity to cure the alleged defect.

So four times and thirty days are the benchmark. I'm coming up on Trip #3 and they are going to say that it's trip 1 because this is the first trip w/o the radio.

If you were really motivated for a fire sale you wouldn't have any issue selling the truck yourself. It would be much easier and cheaper than the lemon law route.

Not trying to throw gasoline on anyone’s fire here.

My 2022 gets worse mileage in the 70-85 mph range, roughly 17-18 mpg. If I take highways not interstates, I go 55-60 mph and get 22 mpg easily.

    Caveat:
I drive under 2k rpm, most of the time, even accelerating and I stop equally slow.

Not sure if this helps, but it probably doesn’t hurt.
