Hi Got a new battery from dealer earlier this week, wondering what type of battery it is, AGM any chance? I guess I got fooled by "PREMIUM 84", but this one should be a regular battery?
There is no caps on top of battery so based on some Reddit posts, it should be an AGM battery. Anyone can help? Thanks.

Pretty sure it's a regular lead acid with 84 month "warranty" not agm.
Batteries don't have caps on individual cells any more just 2 plastics plates to cover 3 cells each.
Some don't have any caps or plates.

Just for the record, Toyota does not make Batteries. They buy them in bulk and put them in their vehicles.

Thanks, guys. It's not same as the old one, so I wonder if they just "upgrade" an AGM for me.

Agree with you. Toyota buy bulk and sell it with "Toyota" logo on them.

Stock alternator is does not put out high enough charge without additional ecu programing for AGM batteries. No way they gave you a AGM.

I didn't know this, really helpful information.
Based on my limit (or say false) information, only BMW cars need to re-program ecu to use AGM batteries.
Now I feel more clear on using AGM batteries. Thank you!

Not AGM. This vent is where sulfuric acid can spill out if the battery is subjected to steep inclines or high g-forces:

Tacoma has to be reprogrammed as well to upgrade to an AGM. Tuners like OTT can program to run an AGM.

Had similar post in TacomaWorld awhile back, about batteries from Toyota. Interstate, or whoever owns it Interstate, makes batteries for Toyota. Why go to Toyota for them to change out battery? Did you pay for battery? Also, what other people wrote.

Good eyes! I noticed other "vent" like things on the side of the battery when I took the pictures.
    And Thanks for your input!

Because it's still under warranty, I didn't pay for it.
Batteries from other places will clearly indicates if it's an AGM. And price tag will tell me the difference, for sure. LOL.

I had one of these in my 2004 4Runner, worked for 186k miles, 9 years. I replaced it with a Diehard Plt before I took a cross country trip from Midwest to FL, to Canada and back. I gave it to a friend of mine, he ran it for 2 more years till he sold his 3rd gen 4Runner.

Too bad it's not available in the U.S.

Post #7 states Toyota batteries are made by Johnson Control which also makes Interstate.

I saw Panasonic brand batteries for sale from RockAuto. I was not in the Tacoma section when I saw them, so no idea if they have our size available.
