Hi all, went to dealer for recall work regarding water intrusion on the rear break light above the bed. I was informed by the dealer that there was extensive mold growth throughout above headliner, carpets ect. I'm wondering if anyone has had this experience? I have some concerns about the health impacts of this particularly for my 8 year old that has been in the vehicle with me.

First off, had the recall ben done yet? IF not, they will do it, and replace everything that is moldy. The recall pays for Serve Pro or similar service to come and remediate the mold. So there will not be any in it when the truck is reassembled and returned to you.

I have done about 12 of these. It is very time consuming. All of the sound deadening material on the floors has to be removed by the tech. This takes a few hours. It takes Serve Pro about 3-4 hours to do what they do to it.

When you get it back with new sound deadening, jute padding, carpet and headliner, it will smell like a new truck.

Hey all, just wanted to bump this thread. Almost 7 months later the dealer still has my truck, and they have not completed the mold remediation. Has anyone had this type of experience? My mind is kind of blown that my truck has been sitting on the lot for this long depreciating. Has anyone received any reimbursement from Toyota for loss of use? Any advice?

They've had your truck for 7 months with no explanation?
It took 7 years to figure out there was an issue with water leaking in?

7 Months!!!!! I know there have been parts on back order, but that's crazy. Have they told you what parts they are waiting on? What is being replaced? I know on all the ones I've done, I replaced the carpet, padding, and sound deadening material on the floor. And the sound deadening was always the hang up for me. Seemed like that stuff was always on BO.

I'd call the Customer Care number. Get them involved. If you are still paying on the truck, at a minimum as that they reimburse you for the last 7 payments and make any payments while the truck is still waiting to be repaired.

It’s a process,,, but 7 months? That’s ridiculous, hopefully you’re at least in a rental on their dime. You should inquire as to what specifically has been done, and what’s left to do, and where the hold up is. I’m curious if it’s back ordered parts, the ServPro type service (doubtful here), the or the actual shop work (or lack thereof).

We have had issues getting Serv Pro out, but not months. Unless they don't have anyone trained to do the job. The first one I did, we waited about 6 weeks for them to get a team trained to do the job. I know the sound deadening material took a couple of months when we first stated to get these in. It was on a national back order. And the bad thing is, is that you can't order the parts until you have torn the truck apart and submitted all the pictures for approval of repair.

And he should be in a rental on their dime. The recall allows for rental car. Not all recalls do.

Back in October they presented the vehicle back to me as fully complete, however when I opened the door it still smelled like mold and the headliner was still stained. They agreed with me and said they would order a new headliner but it would take several months... They have updated me a few times as to the delay in backordered parts. 7 months is unacceptable and I am going to be contacting corporate... I am in a rental, but my issue is that my truck has just been sitting on the lot rotting for the past 6 months.

*Update* we are now at 8 months and the dealer still has my truck. They are still waiting on parts. In the meantime I have swapped out my rental for service and my current pending bill with enterprise is $10k and ticking. I'm shocked Toyota has handled this recall like this...

I'm curious how you all would handle this situation at this point? Has anyone had their truck in service this long?
