@mrtonyd I’m pretty sure I spotted you yesterday at Breck! Recognized you on the mountain but didn’t realize it until I saw Strava.

For a metal frame, I'd do what others have said and go with some 3M vinyl paint protection film from Amazon. That's what I put on my metal bikes. Just make sure you put a big enough piece on that the pad doesn't rub the edges of the protection and rip it off.

I also recommend to trim the corners so they are rounded. It looks better and helps make sure the edges don't lift (in my experience).

Some killer deals on GT bikes right now. I took advantage of the Norco Torrent s2 for $950

One of my buddies shows up to shuttles with cut up foam pool noodles. I'm still trying to convince him DH bikes are a consumable.

Build is trash but I'd be more worried about warranty issues here than anything.

I was looking at it from the POV of : someone bought a used older aluminum bike getting into the sport and now wants to get a carbon bike.
My first carbon bike was the Orbea that wasn’t specd that great. But I could feel the lightness+ newer geometry vs my first bike and was like hell yea

IMG_5551.jpg Finally getting around to rebuilding my 2015 Jekyll to sell it. Pivot bearings, brake lines, bleed the dropper, replace necessary drive train components to be able to sell this to someone progressing into the sport

HAH! Yeah, I got it a few months back. FINALLY got around to swapping everything over a few weeks ago. It was quite the process. Included new and improved downtube protectors.

    Question on dirt jump sizing.

I'm looking at the rigid GT la bomba. There are some larges in stock on different websites, but shipping is about $150+. GT's site has a rigid in medium in stock with free shipping.

The only time I have been on a dj was in front of a friends house on the street. I'm like 6 ft, don't plan on doing super huge stuff. Maybe learn to t-bog or one footer on small to medium jumps. Think a medium would be fine? This would be a play bike and not get a huge amount of time on it unless I absolutely fall in love with it, which is unlikely.

I'm no authority in DJ bikes, or sizing... bit size is just a feel preference. Not as critical as fit on a road, or MTB.
I went to buy a used commencal absolut that was size Large, but the bike felt long. More hardtail, then BMX. Ended up with a standard size Dirt jumper, because It felt smaller, and nimble. I wanted a big BMX feel, so YMMV.

    Edit: I'm 5'11.

You'll appreciate a large for sure. The med would be ridable but it will be unforgiving. The large will give you much more comfort and stability which will be a better platform for learning tricks. I'm also 6ft and have had a lot of DJ bikes. Imo anything below like 415 reach is well into what I call clown bike territory. Clown bikes killer for the skate park but give me something longer for jumps, and generally not spontaneously looping out and dying.

Last clown bike I had, NS Majesty park, 393mm reach and super stuffed rear end. I think it was technically a 24" frame they adapted to 26". It was an absolute weapon in the skate park. I don't think I have the spinal fluid for anything that zesty anymore.

    A good friend and I are hatching a plan…

As it becomes more real I may need some help choosing what mtb rides/easy-moderate offroad trails to do.

Really want to find a spot to camp on the north rim too

Solid start, but keep going north from SLC till Jackson. Not much further.
    Then head west through Idaho.
Some killer riding in those areas, and not much more added to the trip.
