Is it possible to start the truck, lock it and go back inside the house with key in pocket?

Yes, atleast on my 2022 but the remote won't lock or unlock the doors while the truck is running so you have to use the physical key to lock it. I believe if you lock the door before closing it it will automatically unlock but I could be remembering that wrong.

I have done this in order to leave the inverter powering something while I wasn't in the truck.

If doing this often, you might as well get a remote start kit, N2 and others have plug n play for a few hundred buck,, probably less than your deductible.

He should already have remote start from the factory FOB. No need to put good money after bad when what should be present might meet the OPs needs.

With that said there are people who are currently having problems with Toyota on the FOB issue. Too many threads here recently on that issue.

Edit: It occurred to me later that the 2019 may not have the factory remote start from the FOB.

Sorry, I had this 2021 confused with another 2019 in another thread.

On my 2002 Tacoma, one of the keys was worn in such a way that I could remove it from the ignition switch with the Truck running. Very handy "feature". I could go back in the house and lock it on the way out or get out and unlock the cap to load something (assuming the F'ing cap lock wasn't frozen which it usually was half the time in the winter).
