I feel your pain. Every issue that comes up on either the 4runner or the Tacoma I'm just like...well...I'll get to it someday lol.

My truck makes lots of noises, but I know those noises. It's scary when it makes a new one that disappears soon after it appears.

I swear every time I fix a known noise, a new scary unknown noise pops up to replace it

Got rid of my leaf bushing noises when I did the axle swap. But ever since I've had a new noise coming from somewhere. No idea where its coming from or what it could be..
Seems to happen on low speed turns, makes me worried its the diff but I got no idea.
I'm sure it'll just turn into a standard truck noise after a few months though

I do the blatant neglect and address everything all at once method. Like the rear end is experiencing right now. Slapped the third in last night, starting to touch up paint, next up is installing the tank again, and axles.

The Tacoma doesn't get driven enough anymore to really have any major issues pop up...although it's alignment is still fucked for reasons I could never figure out, I don't drive it enough anymore to care as much as I used to lol.
The 4runner is my daily and makes all the noises you'd expect something nearly 30 years old with 270k miles to make (and leak). Otherwise it's been pretty stupid reliable, other than the 4wd going out recently.

Fixed my door lock but still driving around without the interior panel on because...don't feel like it.
*The lock and window controls are plugged in and hanging there, so hey, everything works.

I saw an old Camry parked at my work the other day, looked pretty haggard on the outside and then the dude opened the door and I swear every interior covering piece, including the inner door panels, was missing. Like any true 90s Toyota it's still chugging on begging it's owner to just let it die already

Speaking of the 4R, the previous owner's profile/items came up as suggested to me on FB MP.

Clicked his name as if I was gonna send him a message and yep, that's the 4Runner's last owner!

Didn't know FB MP would suggest people you dealt with in the past.

I bet it's loud as crap in that thing!
I'll get to it soon-ish. When it's working "enough" these days, in winter, I have trouble getting motivated.

I went through a weird phase with the Tacoma where the outer handles were breaking every few months, I'm pretty sure those interior door panels are only held on with about half the clips they should be using

    The FB tracking is crazy
My gf had her mustang pop up on her front page of her fb mp, and its at a dealer in El Paso (her range was not set to even show that far). Didn't even have the VIN posted, so I really don't understand how they even knew to share it with her.. Ad naturally had no mention of the salvage title, it only sold at auction a couple weeks ago so I have my doubts they even replaced the frame rails like they were supposed to.

That sounds about right. As long as those mounting screws are tight the panel almost doesn't need clips haha.
I bought the metal door handles a while back, haven't installed. Waiting for the old ones to break...again.

My old Land Cruiser popped up for Jaxon...although we are friends on FB too so maybe the LC was trying to find its way back

Yeah I think mine just stopped breaking because I don't use them anymore. Although now my 5 year old is tall enough to open her own car doors and every time she does it on the Tacoma I wince. Just a matter of time.

Oddly the handles on the 96 4runner feel way more robust than even the OEM handles on the 04 Taco. Handle quality and the way it feels when it latches/unlatches.

yeah that's why I can neglect shit for years but when I dig in the goal is to not need to touch that section for several years too. Also just been trying to make things newish and more comfortable again to just maintain longevity, mostly rust abatement. In the end the cab will be getting swapped at some point but the frame, motor, suspension and trans is solid as fuck.

That's good. I feel like 4R overall was more robust? Or just put together better.
So the handles don't have that 'pull up and up until finally, when you don't think it's going to open and the handle is going to break off, it pops open' feeling?

4R definitely felt that way compared to the Tacoma

Yeah the Tacoma handles never really 'grabbed' the way the 4runners do. Always felt a bit softer and I've come to associate that feeling with them breaking eventually lol. But that may just be my own bias. I also don't know if the 4runner ones have been replaced before, I doubt it but who knows.

I got 100k on the tacoma on never had a handle fail. I think you guys need to stop working out your hands so much.
