Went to The A.B.C. store and picked up my lottery bottle and noticed that they partially took Buffalo Trace off the allocated list. Still only one bottle per day but at least it's on the shelves.

 

Cheapest I have found near me is $700. Let us know how it stands up.

 

Secondary market sucks. I won't open this till June when friends come down from N.Y.C. They usually bring scotch and I'll supply the Bourbon.

 

I'm pretty much just a cocktail guy now so I'm not really interested in paying for top notch bourbon to mix with my bitters, sweet vermouth and/or Campari.

So I tend to buy Tin Cup, Maker's Mark or whatever else I can find on sale for $30 or so.

Best I've ever had? I remember drinking a lot of Hirsch 16 and 20 (not in cocktails) back in the 90s when it came dipped in blue and red wax. I think the 16 was about $40 and the 20 was in the $60 range.

 

This years lottery. Not bad for just a couple hours. There were still 250+ bottles when I left.

 

Costco (of all places) had a case of Willits Family Reserve. Only aged 4 years, but cask strength with just a touch of water, so still hot at ~57%. Only cost $60. With a rock, it wasn't anywhere near as hot as I might have expected.

Green top (Rye)? That's about right on those. Usually $69 or so here. Recently saw some 7 and 11 year ryes locally. And some purple tops as well.

 

2024 is great.
2023... not so much.

I had this last month before going dry. I didn’t think much of it. I thought my taste buds were too calloused with it being lower proof. I reassessed tonight and meh. Nothing to like and nothing to hate. One and done with this bottle. Cheers.
