I’m installing a small lift on my 2015 TRD Sport and I figured I’d go ahead and replace my LBJ while I’m in there(boots cracked). I realize that Toyota sells the complete lower control arm but I’m really only wanting to replace the LBJ. I’ve seen a few listings on EBay, but there’s no way to tell if they’re legit or not. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thankyou

how are the control arm bushings on a 10 year old truck? might be worth changing the LCA as well?? they are a pain to get out...

Going through the same thing as I have one creaking/groaning LBJ but really don't want to shell out for the LCA and get it aligned. Also don't like trusting cheap ball joints.
I tried ordering the OEM one from Toyotapartsdeal and 2 dealers that showed them on their website but all cancelled my order due to unable to stock in North America.

I ended up taking a bit of a gamble on this one on Ebay since I read people had successfully gotten them from the UAE which makes sense considering they're spec'd for a Hilux. Bit pricy but is on par with roughly how much OEMs sell for compared to some listings that showed like two for 50 bucks out of Cali, seemed suspicious. Will update this once they come in

I've used the ebay/hilux ones that Peter603 linked with great success. I'd recommend even though they take a while to show up.

I also tried Moog before biting the bullet for the ebay Toyota ones and they only lasted about 20k miles. Well worth the money to go Toyota OEM.

Tip - when installing the toyota joints - remove the rubber boot. One of the standard cups in the press kit fits perfectly WITHOUT the rubber boot. Makes it very easy to press in.

I ordered mine from Amayama (Japan). It was $110 shipped and took about two weeks from order date to delivery.

You cannot purchase OEM Tacoma ball joints as individual parts from any vendor. I'm rebuilding the entire front end of my Gen3 2016 currently and was also advised about the Hilux lower ball joints. This is your best option because they are Toyota ball joints. Control arms from the dealer for my 2016 are $500/each. I use the website OEM Genuine Parts as much as possible. My control arms were < $250/each from the group of Toyota/Scion dealers.

I also decided to take a slight risk on the Sankei 555 upper ball joints as an aftermarket solution. There is some positive comments of them here but my primary reference for information on these is the IHMUD from that serves the Land Cruiser and LX470 vehicles. Many positive reports of the Sankei control arm assemblies for these vehicles. I'm trying to determine how I can access other Sankei suspension parts form my Gen3 but have not received a response from Sankei yet.

I bought some from the UAE on ebay as well, worked out great.

DRT Fab is also stocking them if you want a US supplier.

I reached out to the seller about these on eBay. He said that they wouldn’t work in a 2015 Tacoma. What’s the difference between Tacoma and hilux ball joints?

Updating that my Ebay one from the UAE came in and everything looked to be genuine OEM and matched the stock one I removed exactly. Install was as expected and am very happy it fixed my issues. Well worth it for 75 bucks and an afternoon.

Please keep us updated regarding durability. I have read 150k can be expected of OE ball joints but I am currently rebuilding my entire front end and it's control arms have less than 120k. I cannot imagine these are the second set of control arms.

Will do. As far as I'm aware these are my original arms and ball joints and I'm at 190k, only replaced one since the other side still seems fine.

Thanks for the info regarding Toyota Hilux replacements from foreign markets.

I have been using "Mevotech TTX" aftermarket balljoints, which appear to be the most expensive option on the mainstream domestic market.

They are beefy-looking, but come with non-standard hardware -- i.e., require a different socket size on all the fasteners. That alone is completely stupid.

The threading is different too, e.g., on their sway bar links, which come with single-use nylon-insert locknuts. After repeated suspension service, these nuts lose their locking ability, back out, and cause the links to puncture the outer CV boots.

On top of that, their products simply do not last as long as OEM.

I do not recommend "Mevotech" components for any application on these trucks. Next time I'll try my luck buying Hilux parts.

(Edit: Note that OEM sway bar links are available from domestic Toyota dealerships. They cost more up-front, but if you buy the stupid coarse-threaded aftermarket ones, you will wind up buying new CV axles [or at least boots] in addition to OEM links, once yours come loose and puncture your CV boots.)

Please help. Desperately need to replace LBJ since it's to a point I don't safe with the current condition. I want to use OEM and have read all about the situation trying to get Toyota LBJs. Who have you bought from on ebay that you felt confident was not scamming you on a fake LBJs?....... I have trust issues from past experiences.

Its for a pair if that makes it better. You asked for OEM and a trust worthy vendor. I provided an option.
