So anyway now that I'm home and have dealt with the UPS company..

Fun fact when you start the warranty request with "It caught on fire" they ask a LOT of questions.

We came to a few conclusions:

1: Your clean agent extinguishers don't do ANY good if they're in the room that is currently on fire. So yeah, we had to discharge ABC dry chem in an electrical room which as everyone knows, ABC is corrosive.
2: lead acid fires smell really bad
3: *some stuff I shouldn't mention on a public forum
4: when someone says RIGHT NOW they mean it.

 

Better off with cardox or halon in a room like that

 

Appears to me to be an illegal install according to NEC. Dedicated clearance unless UPS unit is totally enclosed...

 

I agree and am going to push for it in a couple of our electrical rooms. Most of them are 1500 or 2000 amp feeds.

I always love the warnings on panels that yell "NO SAFE PPE EXISTS!"

It's a rack mount UPS. Do you have a listing that would actually apply if mfg requirements for clearance are met?
