That's why the 3rd gen 4runner and 1st gen Taco are a great pair to have, except for the stupid e-brake being completely different in both. I constantly punch the lower dash instinctively trying to find it in the 4runner

I think Ive put more miles on my company truck these last 2 years than the tacoma has seen in 11 years

I got one machined at work today. The guy who did it for me (a mechanical engineer, not a full-time machinist) said however he did it was a bad time because of the hardness of the steel. Another mech said he thinks he knows a better way and will try making one for himself--he has the same bike rack and shares my disdain for the included L-wrench. Depending on how that goes, a chopped-up L-wrench in a regular socket might still be the winner as far as ease of production.

I could ask an actual machinist for their thoughts, but they've got real work to do and this gives us all something to talk about.

If it were me and I just needed to get it done real quick. I'd go to the tool room and grab a carbide drill bit, regular old 1/8-in carbide bit should get right into her.

I might try that still just for fun. I wouldn’t mind having two of these (one for the truck and one for the garage) and I’ve spent a lot more money on worse things.

Nope, I’ve only spent one night at home since I picked it up, and leave for Boston in the morning… I’ll be home this weekend though so hoping to knock it out then!

Another video with a failed drive shaft.

@Speedytech7 I feel like this guy is doing a less-good job of everything you're doing.

The basic platform is cool, but he's got a 3RZ with an LCE supercharger running on a stock ECU, he's stacking cheap mufflers to try to make it quiet, he's got Chevy springs but can't get his shocks mounted right, and he's got a clickbait title (the LCE long block is advertised as capable of 750+hp but he's still running on the aforementioned stock ECU).

Don't get me wrong I like him and his channel, but it feels like he jumped into the deep end and is still learning to swim on a lot of aspects of the build.

For sure, I think he'll get there, and it'll be fun to watch. He worked on Sunrader 4x4 conversions for like 10 years before getting on YouTube (his company was called Elevated Overland), then did a very brief stint with Grind Hard. Not sure why he left Grind Hard (maybe because he's a New Mexico boy and couldn't handle North Idaho winters?) but he came back from that with his own full-time channel and apparently a bunch of sponsors, including LCE and Fox. It just seems like he's rapidly acquired a wealth of fancy tools and parts after a long time being scrappy and he hasn't figured out what to do with them all yet.

    He's got a pretty cool 1st gen 4Runner, too.

    How's your exhaust sounding?
