Shop Time w/T.W. Friends

I have always tried undersized left handed drill bits first, as often just the bite tension is enough to unwind. You say it’s flywheel, which makes me think loose and sheared by the side to side (I’ve encountered these on torque converters several times. If it doesn’t work, often it gives you a start and pilot hole for further attempts.

 

I was told at 3:50 this afternoon that I need to create a plan showing all of the construction projects that are going to be going on this summer.

No problem. I've made them for the last 5 or so years.

Except that it needs to be done before 3:00 tomorrow because someone has a meeting.

I was then informed by someone else that's in that same meeting that it's been planned for weeks.

It's all just so incredibly irritating.

 

Do we work at the same place? No planning or forethought.

We had a large machine show up on a LTL trailer.

Called The Office -- the owners had gone to the manufacturer (in another state), decided to buy the machine/process, ordered it -- and never bothered to tell the Plant Manager.

Then we are told "the factory guys will be here in 3 days, we need that ready to run".

This thing needed a 50 amp 3 phase electrical supply - not something you just plug into a handy outlet.

Spoiler: Not nice

I worked for dullards who thought they were clever...

 

I love the looks I get from electrical engineers and designers when they find out I’m running 3 phase machine in my home garage.

 

Do you have 3 phase service or running a converter?

I’m an electrical lightweight .

The first time I heard about 3 phase was from a guy who worked in a wood shop. He used it in the context of “my boss will kill me if I run these 2 machines at the same time because they run phase 3 and his electical bill will more than double this month.”

What’s it all about? How is phase three different from the regular residential service?

At least it’s supposed to snow in February but I hate ice storms whatever the month

I bought one of these from Amazon for my milling machine. Works good, just doesn't have a ground

2 hots in the top, 3 hots out the bottom.

I’m no electrical expert, just know enough to get myself out of trouble.
3 phase is more efficient and you get a lot more power per amp compared to single phase.
Simplified:
Single Phase: 1 conductor 1 neutral
Three Phase: 3 conductors 1 neutral

My guess is that the wood shop guy just had some really high HP machines. If I run my big mill full time my electric bill more than doubles.

Nice! When I had my CNC router I upgraded the spindle to a larger 3 phase motor and bought one of those cheap Amazon VFDs to convert it. It worked well.

gone check my truck, dont want to be missin my convertors or nuthin....

 

Kohler engine for a welder, starter bolt broke off. They welded on it and tried to get it out. I drilled it, heated it, and could not get it to budge. Had to drill it out and put a thread insert in it. Used a piece of metal to keep the hole distance right and to keep it straight.
