I’ve got an order in for a 2025 Tacoma OR Premium in black with a dealer in southern Ontario.
The dealer called yesterday saying that they have an underground that just arrived that I can have. I told them I will wait but now I’m wondering if that was a good decision.
I’ve always had grey but not a fan of underground.
I’m in no rush for delivery. 2-3 month wait is fine.
Does anyone know how many of the parts that go into a Tacoma come from the US side of the border?

i absolutely love my underground, but it's a divisive color. definitely wait for what you want.

very little gets added after the mexico border. depends on your options, but running boards, door edge guards, bed liner - shit like that.

Are a lot of major US parts used in its manufacture in Mexico? I think the engine is from Japan. How about the chassis, dash, seats etc.

Exactly. You're making a huge purchase. Buy what you want, not what they sell you. It's not like these trucks are some handmade one off product.

Let me echo what everyone else has said, wait and get the truck you really want. In late 2015, I found my 3rd Gen equipped exactly how I wanted it (I wanted Barcelona Red too). That and the fact it has been reliable is why I have kept it for over 9 years.

With the tariffs threat, new vehicles may be quite a bit more expensive in the near future??

Tariff in Mexico is paused for 30 days as of this morning. That said I’d get what you want however if I didn’t still love my 3rd gen and it still running great after 210k miles and I was in the market for a 4th gen I do really like the underground they offer for the 4G

Everything I want is presold. I thought that would have been the case anyway, but I might have stopped and signed the papers on the way home. Sounded like the dealer is finding the trucks for the customer and those are not orignal allocations for the dealer.

The 2.4T (Alabama), 8-speed Aisin-licensed transmissions, and various axle & driveline components are manufactured in the USA and shipped to Mexico for final assembly.

I’ve had three prior trucks from Baja including a 2023, which all had inconsistent assembly quality. After crawling all over and underneath, happy (or surprised?) to report that the current Tacoma from Guanajuato seems to be assembled to a similar standard as my 2024 4Runner from Tahara. Not talking materials quality, which are a step down, but assembly. We’ll see how it all holds up in time, but they’re doing pretty good work.

life is too short to drive a color you do not like and these trucks are too expensive to settle for something you didn't want. if you dont need it now wait for your color.

Black on any vehicle is a labor of love. The mere process of just waxing will leave swirl marks, not to mention all other external factors affecting the finish. Not my cup of tea...

Black is the least bad option. The OR premium in Canada only comes in white, black, underground, solar octane and blue crush. I would love silver but even if I upgrade to a hybrid that doesn’t help unless I go up several trim levels.

You can still get solar octane on a 2025 Tacoma in Canada?

Only you can decide how important color is to you. I was in a similar situation but between white and underground. For me it was literally a coin flip so I decided to try UG. Then the order kept getting delayed and delayed and delayed. They got in a white one and I pulled the trigger. No regrets.

You have to make your decision, but I would 100% choose underground > black. Black vehicles get scratches by just looking at them. You may not care about that, but I would constantly be trying to get out the scratches.

While going through the buying process, I soon figured out that if there was any chance of finding what I wanted, it would need to be sold/reserved for me before ever getting built. In my case, what I was looking for is probably the least popular trim and likely the fewest Toyota produces (but a great fit for me----absolutely love it), so for many buyers this may not be the case. If you're looking for one that isn't among the popular/high-volume sellers, finding a dealer willing to work w/ you and letting them know what you want may help---- in my case they wanted a $500 refundable deposit and started looking. When something close came up they'd ask if I wanted it or not---- took a while, but ended up w/ what I was looking for.

OP---- I would definitely agree w/ those above suggesting you wait for what you really want. Mine is UG, but that was what I wanted. DK for sure, but guessing that had I not gotten what I wanted there'd be a sigh of disappointment every time I drove by one. Just my 2¢.

Actually, it was the US who backed down and postponed the tariffs for 30 days... That's why I said with the "tariff threat". May or may not ever happen?!? But people have another 30 days to buy shit cheaper because if the tariff's do actually happen, vehicle prices are going up!
