This truck was just posted 7 hours ago and it’s already about to sell with an asking price of 9500. I haven’t seen something sell this quick in a while. I guess a lot of people have a big hard on for the 22re though..

Spindle gussets aren't exactly a need, but its been a fear of mine since a friend has his 3rd gen 4runner spindle snap apart on a trail a few months ago. That was a nightmare to get rolling again and off the trail. The UBJ press fit section completely sheared in 2.
The snowbound gusset kit reinforces that whole area significantly
    upload_2025-2-4_16-15-36.png

And just psychologically spending ~$100 on nice spindle upgrades vs spending like $250 on oem hardware just to replace my not-that-bad lca bushings because my currently functioning (alignment shops have never said anything at least) cam hardware is going to get screwed up in the process.

Sounds like them all coming out clean is a long shot though.

Might have to dig into some of the cam tab eliminator kits instead

Seems like money well spent. I remember seeing the TC gussets and thinking that's not a bad $50.
I try to ignore spindle talk because it makes me think about mine, that have been ignored for years and are slowly rusting away, left to gently flake off into the wind.

Yup, 17 year old girl. She had a passenger with her that survived the incident. Turns out the shooter was a former Marine shooting from the passenger seat while someone else drove his car. Takes a big man to shoot 12 times into a civilians car.

They say there's no such thing as an Ex Marine but I firmly believe there are exceptions

Every time i hear about something like that it always reminds me of that sense in full metal jacket when he was praising Lee Harvey Oswald and that other guy for learning to shoot from the marines.

every time i see that part i always think isnt that something you would be ashamed of not proud of to tell people. Then agian its just a movie

I understand piece of mind. I’ve personally never seen that happen. I always told myself I should gusset but I’ve never had an issue yet (Knocks on wood). I think maintenance is a bit more advantageous than upgrades if you’re debating between the two. And perhaps with the money you save doing the cam eliminator rather than OEM cams, the spindle gussets can be had as well! Win win! Weld some 1/4” key stock behind each of the cam tabs too to be safe while you’re under there.

I've had the gussets just sitting on my shelf for 2 years... I think I've had the spindles off like six or seven times. Not to mention I made all the press tools to change the bearings already. But I have no excuses for why I haven't done them

Gotta heat up the cast material, make sure it stays hot while you weld, slow cool down. Nobody has time for that nonsense

From my understanding they only break once your upper ball joint acts as the limit strap when they're over articulated and bind

I do that same shit with my buddies trucks. By the time I do theirs, whatever it may be, I don’t feel like doing the exact same thing to mine that day. Then it becomes not such a priority anymore :burp:

Getting ready for the first race in April, not sure what maintenance to do to the 300k mi 5vz before endurance racing for 24 hours.
Mostly wondering if i should flush the oil cooler or not lol

If you'll be living at higher RPM and turning just make sure you have enough oil in the thing, the pan isn't baffled worth a shit.

definitely will be running about a quart high, probably won't put a Baffle in for this event... fully anticipating a 2GR swap next winter or this summer.

I forgot how anemic the NA 5VZ is, even on the small tire...

NA the 5VZ is a tragedy, the long runners on the intake make it want to exist entirely below 3500rpm. Going over that won't do much for power, it all rolls off after 3800 on a factory engine.

I have thought about making a manifold for it... just completely remove the top 2 sections and make a plenum with maybe some 3D Printed trumpets on top of the lowest part of the stock manifold

We are going to make one for it in the drag truck, but no trumpets or anything haha, just a good sized log mani with a 85mm TB about 3" off the lower intake manifold.
