    It just clicked in my head, were not talking about when looking sideways at the truck (like factory) but a V when looking from the back. That only allows you to fit longer shocks for crawling and flex. It is less stable and can wear the shocks out quickly.

    When I used to wheel every day, that was all I cared about. 20 years later, the concerns have changed back to stability- which is why, whenever I get around to taking the bed off and cleaning things up back there, I'll completely bin what I did 20+ years ago...

    Tacoma's have partially boxed frames with the back half being C channel. C channel is great for truck things but when you start off roading the C channel starts to flex which can cause issues down the line like twisted or cracked frames. If you're prerunning the frame flexing around can cause performance and stability issues. This box in kit stiffens the whole C channel portion of the frame which helps eliminate all these issues. Here is a good discussion on boxed vs C channel frames. In our experience boxed frames just work better on these older trucks.
